I toyed with the idea of an inflatable kayak, but as soon as I put this in the water, I was so glad I opted for a hardshell. Will it win races? Probably not, but I'm satisfied with the quality and performance. It's light enough to load onto my sedan after a river paddle and easy enough to carry solo. I also was able to snag this for a song of a deal and they delivered to my door. An absolute no brainer I will enjoy for years to come.

My wife's kayak to use in addition to her sup. It's comfortable, very stable, light weight, and built well. It's a 10 foot, recreational kayak and paddles like one. It's flat bottom makes it stable but doesn't help it track straight or cut through chop. It's not bad but not really its strengths. Excellent for the price.

Happy with this and not heavy. Easy to get in and out of. Not tippy

I read quite a few reviews prior to purchasing this Kayak. I already have a Wilderness System Pongo 10.5 boat that is my main Kayak, but I wanted a second one I could use when I wanted to invite a friend or family member for a paddle. The Pongo was a $1,200 boat, so as nice as it is, I didn't want to spend that much on a second. Despite some mixed reviews on here, I bought this Pelican. I took it out for the first time and here are my thoughts: 1. Several reviewers remarked on it being unstable. I have no idea what they are talking about as I had zero stability issues, either getting in, out, or on the water. I paddled on a slightly choppy river off the Chesapeake Bay and had no problems. 2. The Kayak is light and easy to carry and load. Build isn't as sturdy as my Pongo, but I estimate it to be 10-15 lbs lighter. 3. There is no water-tight bulkhead or compartment. It comes with some Styrofoam inserts that fit behind the seat, but these are unlikely to keep it afloat were it to flip in the water. Be aware - you will either need to make some mods, never flip it, or risk it sinking if you do. 4. The storage compartment is very shallow and small. Not much will fit. 5. The seat was comfortable, though I added a cushion to it. The back support was good for me and is adjustable via two straps. 6. The front and rear handles seem unlikely to last long - fairly thin, light rope/cloth. I will be replacing them, which is easy and cheap. 7. The boat handled well in the water. No instability, as mentioned, and maneuvered easily. I was out for about two hours and was pleased with it's ride. Overall, I would say this is a decent, middle of the road Kayak for anyone who isn't looking for a top of the line experience. If, like me, you want something to go out for a 2-3 hour leisurely paddle, this is a great option.
