Great for using in a DIY watering system... as long as you don’t have a Borzoi
These watering cups are excellent. Very well made, an extra cup was enclosed with my order, super easy to install and the cup works great for my chickens. :( Sadly, while I was getting the first one installed my Borzoi grabbed the bag containing rest of them and chewed them to bits. All were mangled and punctured beyond any possible use. So far my chickens are loving the one cup that I have set up already. I will need to reorder these so I can finish up my PVC auto watering system. Super easy to clean too. I keep a gallon of water nearby and pour a splash into the cup each morning and afternoon to flush out the bit of sand/food/other beak debris that collects in the bottom of the cup. I’m probably getting a lot more residue because all the chickens prefer drinking out of the same cup and will no longer drink from the galvanized fount. And as an aside, my small dogs will lap water from the cup too. I don’t recall ever seeing them drink from the fount though. The great thing is that the birds are not fouling the 5 gallon fount that they normally use, as it is much more difficult to flush and wastes a lot more water to rinse every morning.

BRAVO! So much better than "nipples"!
These are the bees knees for backyard turkeys! They were used to the tiny "nipple" devices on a 5 gallon bucket but always seemed thirsty; when we let them out each morning they all headed to the nearest bucket of rain water outside their apartment (not good). We finally took the hint and ordered these instead, and they are the hands-down BEST solution for delivering clean water in far more substantial amounts. Not just drips of water, entire gulps at a time with immediate refills! These watering cups are absolutely easy to install and the tiny rubber washers ensure a tight seal with minimal effort; I particularly love the wing nuts to tighten each watering cup from the inside of the bucket. A tip: make sure to install them about 5" up from the bottom of your water source, much higher than you would with regular "nipples", since the bottoms of the cups must easily clear the ground or whatever other surface you place your water bucket on. That said, I'm extremely pleased with these little cups -- and so are our turkeys!!! Next up: installing a mini-bucket for 10 new ducklings that should be here by the end of next month with these wonderful drinking cups... that's the real test, since ducklings are the hardest to raise due to their excessive need for gallons of water every day (plus the mud thing of course). After testing them with the turkeys I am now very confident that this will work for ducklings too -- well, forget any doubts you might have, just order at least a couple of these and see for yourself how effective they are for little birdies!

The idea is good
They worked as they should but some would get debris in them and that would stop the water from filling the cup or cause the cup to get stuck in full position. It is a great thought and if you don't have sandy dirt it may be fine. It was the fine debris that was the problem not the big stuff.

Great Procuct and They Work!
These cups are made by RentaCoop, which I am finding sells good products. The cups were easy to install. I used a drill to make four 3/8" holes on two sides of a large square heavy-duty container. This allows me to put the container in the corner of the coop, which saves space for the chickens. The cup tubes fit snugly into the holes and the wing nuts worked fine to snug the cups tightly to the container. As recommendeed, I put the container on a block to raise it above the ground. My four young chickens figured it out quickly and seem to like drinking from the cups. The water in the cups stays clean for them so I don't have to change it daily. The package came with 7 cups, so I will be able to make another waterer for the chickens to go outside in their forage area. I am totally pleased with the product.

Great Product!
I attached 2 of these to a plastic, clean, unscented litter container and it works great! The water stays much cleaner. They were very easy to install when following the instructions. I've had them for a few years now and am very pleased. We had a hard freeze for several days and I was challenged as to how to keep the cups from freezing even though I have a piece of heat tape inside the container. A bit of hot water in the morning will loosen the ice chunk which allows the water to freely flow again.

Takes some learning to love these cups
So the proverbial Sandwich review for these cups. The good: No droppings in the water, automatic water, easy for young birds to use and understand. The bad: three floods, admittedly all of my own making, the cups all fill to differing levels, some to the very brim, chicks love to stand on and in them, time is needed to set up the cups for optimal fill. The good: Very simple to fit if for use only outside and if drilled at 80mm from the base of a bucket you can rest the bucket on a flat surface without spills. I love these cups but they definitely need time to set up and proper care taken when installed in a coop. Initially I set them in a 5 gal bucket and tested them in the shower, one leaked but only required extreme tightening of the thumb screw fitting. You get one free with each set of five so that would cover any that totally failed. They are not easily adjustable but you can adjust them by removing and adjusting the internal springs to add or relieve pressure. After stepping on and snapping it, one cup kept over flowing so I removed and inverted the small silicon stopper and the cup now works perfectly. The cups can get shavings stuck beneath them and flood out so do better with wood blocks beneath them, this also supports the cup when the chicks stand on them. I intend to hang the buckets from a chain now the chicks are taller and I think this will reduce the risk of wash outs, I also intend to fit a plastic halo ring around the bucket just above the cups to stop full size chickens perching on them. I'll buy several more sets to use as water points for the birds who free range in the summer.
