Wow! Ok, I admit it’s a bit pricey, so the best way to purchase is in a bundle. It is rather large, but so was the Cat Genie I used to have.I used Dr. Elsey’s Ultra unscented litter, which works great with the machine. I love this machine. It only takes 2 minutes to dump the clumps and leave my kitties with fresh litter. My old machine took 15 minutes to clean and dry the litter. I bought this because I was having rotator cuff surgery and didn’t want to have to scoop litter every day with my less dominant hand/shoulder. This works like a dream. I monitor my two kitties usage with the app. The App also allows me to view their weight, the level of the litter and the waste so I know exactly when to dump it or att fresh litter. I later purchased the extended warranty so it’s covered for 3 years. I’m happy and so are my cats. UPDATE 10/8/25: Ok, so I bought this unit so I wouldn’t have to worry about the litter changing due to extensive rotator cuff surgery. While it did what it was supposed to do…one of my kitties refused to use it. It has taken me 5 months to get her to use it. I tried all the Litter robot instructions for acclimation; litter box attractant powder; Dr. Elsey’s attractant litter, and finally cat calming pheromone spray. This kitty refused and would pee everywhere (bed included) except the litter box. Yes, I had the old litter box next to the new one, but finally, just let it get foul and refused to change it to force her. Finally, I started spraying the pheromone spray, and putting her in the litter robot for two minutes while giving her effusive praise, petting her… and a treat after I let her out. Last week, she started using the robot in her own and I was able to get rid of the old box. So, don’t give up! I went to some lengths because I will be living a nomadic lifestyle in a converted shuttle bus for awhile, and I needed this investment to work for them as they are going with me. I LOVE that I can monitor their (2 kitties) weight and usage, my house smells clean, there are NO accidents outside the box (I.e. peeing over the edge), the mat collects any leftover litter on their paws so there is less tracking, and the thing is so silent as it operates. Yes, it was expensive, but my babies and I are worth it. I bought it as much for me as for my kitties.

I have mixed feelings about this litter box. On the one hand, it’s definitely less work than scooping by hand or even the less expensive automatic box I’ve used for the past three years (the PetSafe ScoopFree). With my old automatic box, every couple weeks you would have to swap out the litter entirely, which was kind of annoying. With this one, the part that needs to be thrown out is already neatly bagged for you and you just have to pull out a tray and put in a new bag. And the litter doesn’t seem to need frequent refilling either, so it’s probably less expensive in terms of litter. And it has a cute little app that weighs your pet every time they use the box, which also helps me keep an eye on how much my cat is using the litter box. The app also lets you adjust the delay between cat using box and the cleaning cycle. So I like that part. On the other hand, this uses clumping instead of crystal litter, and it rotates the entire box full of litter every time the cat interacts with it. With the litter I was using initially (TidyCats 4 in 1 Lightweight whatever) the air in the entire room that the box was in seemed noticeably dustier as soon as I swapped boxes. There was also this unfortunate interaction where the clumps wouldn’t clump perfectly and so as the litter rotated instead of neatly falling into the disposal tray, they would occasionally get stuck to the top of the box. Then my cat (who is kind of a medium-large cat? Like 13 pounds) would go to use the box and maybe accidentally brush one of the clumps stuck to the top, which would then transfer some of the litter to the back of my cat, and then when she left the box and started walking around my apartment, the litter would get in weird places I didn’t want litter, or I’d find bits of it in her fur. It was pretty gross. I did some internet research on ways to fix this, and I swapped to Boxie Pro litter, and the problem seems to have gone away and the air seems less dusty, so that’s kind of awesome. Some of the reviews on the Boxie Pro page claim that it doesn’t mask scent that well and to be completely honest my sense of smell is kind of weak, so I can’t really attest to that part. But at least my cat isn’t tracking litter all over the apartment anymore. So I guess tl;dr my opinion is that this is the best litter box system I’ve used and I mostly like it, but for the obscene amount of money I spent on it I’m a little annoyed that it doesn’t actually work well with all the litters it says it will.

BEWARE!!!! DO NOT EXCEED THE 90 DAYS WARRANTY OR LITTER ROBOT WILL NOT ISSUE YOU A REFUND UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!! Before I made this purchase of the Litter Robot 4, I believe I did extensive investigation, read all the material as well as spoke to Litter Robots customer service a couple of times who assured me our ONE cat, Whiskers would easily transition to utilize Litter Robot 4's, automated self cleaning litter box. This was the important selling feature for me as our one cat, Whiskers is very fastidious and i was cleaning his litter box several times a day and by purchasing litter robot this chore would be eliminated substantially. Litter Robot 4 has an auto self cleaning litter box which LR represented "the patented sifting process automatically separates your cat's waste from the clean litter. JUST EMPTY THE BOX WHEN IT IS FULL". I believe this was an issue with our cat as he could smell his waste which he considered offensive as i normally cleaned his litter box immediately after his use. LR represented that the light would go on automatically on litter Robot 4 when i needed to empty their automated litter box. The light NEVER went on nor did it notify me that it needed to be emptied. Our cat refused to use the Litter Robot litter box IF I DID NOT CLEAN IT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VERY RARE OCCASIONS HE DID TRY ITi In all fairness to Litter Robot, our cat refused to utilize it and so its litter box was never full as i was cleaning it after he used it with the hope that he would continue to use it. IT NEVER HAPPENED so that it why we were not notified automatically. We setup the Litter Robot exactly as we needed to with 1 carbon filter, the litter, the liner in the automated litter box and the carbon filter. This was a very expensive purchase for our family as we live on fixed income. We paid $863.20 for a bundle which included the Litter Robot 4, automated self cleaning litter box, 3 odor trap refills, a matt, 10 liners, 30 cleaner wipes and 2 carbon filters. I followed LR explicit directions to assist our cat with the transition from keeping his old litter box in the room which had a dome on it, utilizing the same litter he liked which I confirmed with LR could be used with LR4, unplugging the LR until Whiskers got used to the noi, plugging it back it, removing his litter box, and our cat leaving us a treasure as he refused to use the litter robot and on and on and on. I believed since our cat's previous litter box had a dome on it that there would be no transition problem as it was similar to Litter Robot 4. I was very wrong. Whiskers never liked the the Litter robot or the noise. i was on the phone with LR Customer Service close to 15 times all these months as I really tried everything to assist our cat to transition during this period of time. Litter Robot customer service represented, "By purchasing Litter robot 4, it would make my life easier as i would not have to clean our cat's litter box numerous times a day since it's litter box was automated." OUR CAT DID NOT LIKE NOISE WHEN THE LITTER BOX EMPTIED. After going through all this ALL THESE MONTHS and following every suggestion LR Customer Service mentioned, I finally realized LR Customer Service were just following "a script for their answers" and were of no use in my particular circumstances and COULD NOT PROVIDE ME ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING THIS ISSUE. I asked LR Customer service if anyone else had this experience with their cat not transitioning to Litter Robot 4 ? There response was "No, all cats transitioned." I was very frustrated at this point. WE PURCHASED THIS LITTER ROBOT 4 ON APRIL 21, 2025, IT WAS DELIVERED IN MAY, AND WE HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH ALL OF THIS ALL THESE MONTHS AND HERE WE ARE IN DECEMBER AND OUR CAT STILL REFUSED TO USE IT AFTER LR REPRESENTED HE WOULD. One of the last conversations i had with LR Customer Service was for me toSPEND MORE OF OUR MONEY AND PURCHASE LR's litter directly from them at an additional cost $43.70 which i purchased so the total cost to us was $906.90 and OUR CAT REFUSED TO USE IT . BY NOW I AM REALLY FRUSTRATED. So Litter Robot 4 is practically brand new with almost all its accessories new, and it just sits there in a corner unused as our cat did not transition after all this time, after we tried everything LR Customer Service recommended, so I KINDLY REQUESTED A FULL REFUND INCLUDING THE $43.70 LITTER I PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM LITTER ROBOT even though it was after the 90 day warranty BECAUSE LITTER ROBOT'S REPRESENTED METHODS DID NOT WORK FOR OUR CAT. Why wasn't i able to complete all this during the 90 day warranty period, you ask? I BELIEVE WE HAD EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES and Litter Robot IN GOOD FAITH AND KINDLY WOULD MAKE AN EXCEPTION TO THEIR 90 DAY REFUND POLICY DURING THIS BLESSED HOLY SEASON TAKING IN CONSIDERATION ALL WE HAVE BE PUT THROUGH AND KINDLY REFUND OUR FULL AMOUNT OF $906.90. The reason, I purchased this Litter Robot was to assist me in making my life easier as my hubby is a 100% disabled Marine, disabled from his service to our country. Both of us have serious health issues and we were in and out of the hospital for surgical procedures during this time period. Litter Robot's response was, " NO. It was over their 90 day warranty period. I could sell it on Craigs list or donate to an animal shelter". That was their response. I rallied to Amazon customer service and they contacted Litter Robot and received the same response. So BE VERY AWARE OF PURCHASING A LITTER ROBOT FROM THIS COMPANY. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CAT. I AM SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO WENT THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE WITH A CAT NOT ACCEPTING THEIR LITTE ROBOT.

The product works incredibly. Built sturdy, to last. Senses my cats well. My only complaint is the internal size. It can feel cramped for my felines which are average sized domestic short hairs. I know they’ve increased the diameter in the newer Litter Robot 5 l, which means I must not have been the only one conveying this. Would highly recommend if you have small to medium sized cats.

Husband said these were too expensive but after a few days of owning one he now says this is the best money we ever spent. Our 2 cats really love it too. Rubber liner is prone to waste sticking to it, tried many brands & types of litter but nothing prevents the sticking. Using Dr. Elsey’s as it has worked the best so far. Olive pit cat litter was the pits! Don’t waste your money on that. Going to try the Arm & Hammer Slide cat litter to see if that works better. But with the Litter Robot, the days of constant scooping are over and that makes the cats and the humans much happier.
