I was so scared to buy this! I bit the metaphorical bullet and got it because I really tend to read a lot on my phone in the dark, and it was giving me migraines. The price could be much better; however, I wanted very specific features that only the Boox Palma 2 could provide. I wanted something where I could read online (AO3, mostly) and download different reading apps easily. I also wanted it to be phone-sized, so this was basically the only option I found. You can get the black-and-white one if you want something cheaper; I just didn't want to wait for it, to be honest. After the stress of fiddling with settings I didn't understand, it didn't take long for me to get used to it (they aren't too complicated once you get the hang of it, and once you get the settings where you want, you don't have to bother with them much). I don't regret getting it. Give yourself time to get familiar with it. The only Con for me is that I wish there were a page turner button on the right side of the device.

BOOX Palma Pro 2 screen failed on its own while the device was fully protected with a screen protector and case. It was never dropped or mishandled. After contacting BOOX support, they immediately claimed the screen was damaged by “external force” with no proof and denied warranty coverage. They then asked me to pay $130 for a screen replacement plus shipping. Very disappointing response for a device that failed under normal use. *Buyer beware* - if the screen fails, they will likely blame you regardless of how carefully the device was handled.

The product is good for what it is. I got it because my eyes were hurting trying to read my webtoons on my iPhone. I definitely had less pain using it. However, I don’t like how the colors looked on the webtoons app. One of the reasons why I like webtoons is because of the pictures and the details in them. So this device was not for me. But the black and white color quality is premium. The device is easy to use, light weight, and is built well. The google store allows you to download all types of apps including Libby, Hoopla, Audible, Webtoons, and any app you would usually be able to get on a phone. The audio quality was not the best but pretty good as well. I was able to adjust the setting in a way to minimize ghosting when looking at comics. And the settings are easy to figure out. If you want an ereader to read regular books, want the apps that you get on a phone, or want to be able to use a good web browser, then this ereader is good. But the colors are not accurate enough to enjoy colored comics.

Concept is cool I really like the idea of a phone sized e reader but this one was trash for its price I really wanted to like it. The way it looks hurts my eyes trying to read it’s extremely laggy it wouldn’t allow me to press always allow in multiple apps if this was 100$ it would be tolerable but not 400 it’s very light but it’s screen looks like someone took an empty device, put a back light in there, and then slid a screen over top of it … again 400 cold hard ones really?

I had the first Palma and when they released it I remember thinking “man, if only it worked with a stylus” so when they released this version, I immediately sold the Palma 1 on eBay (these Boox devices REALLY hold their value)…the stylus isn’t Wacom, which sort of sucks, but only because I can’t use the same stylus for the Palma pro and my note air 5c…the ink sense stylus actually works great..way better than the go color 7 (i only owned that for about 2 months because it was TERRIBLE with the stylus). The color is perfectly fine, the battery life is really really great, the device itself is freakin awesome, fast, versatile, super light and portable, has Bluetooth, has buttons that can switch pages of whichever book/news article you’re reading (the reading experience is awesome), has survived all sorts of trips in my purse (the endless void of random junk in there could destroy any screen, but this little guy has survived it all..for all the issues with Boox screens, this one seems really sturdy and durable)…I truly love it. I also have the Note Air 5C and I’m just blown away with how far this company has gone since I started buying their tablets 7 years ago. I will say, the screen is darker than the black and white Palma1 version, but this is to be expected with color kaleido screens (I’m used to it…get over it). The colors are worth it…it’s a much better experience when you’re browsing articles in the AP app or google news app or even the magazine articles in Libby). I’m so grateful to Boox for continuously offering new and improved devices and software support.
