Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Chess Set

OMG! I don't use that term lightly. I am truly thankful to be able to get this set and at this price. Someone at a flee market in FL tried to sell this to me for $500 June of this year, and I almost brought it then! I'm a HUGE SF fan and I also like to play chess, so this is a dream come true. Seriously. Pro: This packaging makes you feel special. It was sealed in plastic. Each step of unpacking included something awesome. I was going to post pictures, but that would ruin the surprise. -The figurines are solid, highly detailed pieces. Holding them makes this feel like a step (or 3) up from any regular chess set -The nice SF latch box that it comes in for travel. All pieces are set in a custom firm, foam-like cast set in the box for safe travel -The little plaque with the authenticity and manufacturing number is nice with the Capcom letter inside: also makes it all feel like quality -The engraving on the front and back of each piece so you know what each piece represents (Ryu is the King! YASS!) -Playing with friends and family on a nice sized and crafted set Cons: There really are none! The only thing I'd say is that Seth had a small chip on his eyebrow that takes off a little coating in my set. All other pieces were flawless. A Seth fan would notice and care a little more than me. I only mildly care because I can't say my set is flawless and in a small way takes a little away from the quality, but nowhere near enough to say this wasn't worth it or return it! But, I might see about getting the piece replaced. Even if you have no idea what/who Street Fighter is, this is a really nice and quality set. I'm in my 30s and this feels like a very mature set, albeit maybe a little too flashy for the extreme classic person. Otherwise, GET IT WHILE YOU CAN!! Because taking my son's King (Ryu) with my Knight (Akuma) was EXTRA satisfying! Dark Hado Triumphs!!

Pros: Beautiful presentation, superb fit and finish. Pieces are both finely detailed and nice and heavy, very satisfying to play. The set draws and lot of comments and is impressive. Cons: Can be a little hard to tell who is which piece though is easily fixed. Most of the pieces are a little top heavy and will tip over easily. Bottom line: If you enjoy chess and street fighter even a little, buy it. The quality alone makes this set an absolute steal, and having the different characters really adds flavor to the game, comments like "dang-it Chun-Li is really being a pain in my backside!" is icing on the cake! If you like, and can take a silver metallic Sharpe and highlight that identifying marks on the black pieces, use a black Sharpe for the silver ones. This will undoubtedly destroy the "value" of the set, but is an elegant way to make the set a bit more playable, and to be frank I'm not ever selling this beautiful creation. You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

Purchased this set for my Boyfriend's birthday. He loved it, the only problem with this is that it is VERY heavy and bulky. Also, if you want to put it away in its box to keep it new, you will have a hard time since the boxes are fitted almost perfectly and because of the size of the chess table. The case and pieces look beautiful. I would not have paid the full price (I think $200 when it came out on Capcom's online store) but I can see the quality. Now that it is lower in price, I can recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the franchise.

This came in a huge box, really heavy. nicely packaged and nice quality. Although the pieces could have been better made. I discovered this Chess is limited to 5000 sets, the box comes numbered.

I've never been much into gaming and knew little about Street Fighter other than that it was an early video game, but I bought this set as a birthday gift for a very close friend who grew up as a big fan of the Street Fighter game and who also is a fairly skilled chess player. I was fairly certain he'd like it, but was totally unprepared for how much he loved it and how incredibly happy and grateful he was to get it as a gift. Bottom line is that this turned out to be one of the most thoughtful and on-point gifts I've ever given anybody. He also tells me that he's gotten rave responses to it from fellow gamers who also grew up on Street Fighter. The board, case, and pieces are all very beautiful and entirely worthy of prominent display in your home. This is the best thing I could have given this friend, and I got immense satisfaction from seeing how much joy it brought him. I couldn't recommend it more enthusiastically for someone who's into both chess and this kind of classic gaming.

Purchased this as a gift for an avid Street Fighter fan, but upon arrival the Rolento figurine had it's head severed clean off in the same pocket as it's body. The other pieces were undamaged, however another buyer who left a review noted that their Rolento piece was also damaged. Buyer beware--if you order there is a chance that the item will be defective.

I realize that the description says it all, but I did not expect what I got when I received this set. I ordered a few items, and was very surprised to find that this was the only thing inside of a very heavy box. The board itself is probably worth the price- the box is impressive, and the pieces are really cool. Each piece has the traditional icon sculpted on it to remove any confusion. I only wish they labeled each character- although I have been playing Street Fighter since there was only Street Fighter (before SFII) I didn't recognize one or two of the characters, the black queen and one of the black knights or bishops. Other than a little confusion because I'm out of date, this is an amazing set.

High quality set. The board is made of glass and can be easily set on top of the case. The case has a nice design on top to celebrate the 25th anniversary. My case came numbered and with a certificate. The pieces are made out of dense plastic/resin and have clothed feet for the glass board. Each piece has its own foam compartment in the case for protection. Pieces are marked on the front and back of the base to tell you what chess piece it is.
