Sketching People: Life Drawing Basics Review: Fun and instructive - I bought this book aftwr seeing it on a shelf at Michael's. I was drawn to the line workof the author. It is easy to follow and enjoyable. Review: Lightweight, but a good instructional book - I've learned a few things from this book as a beginner. The "lessons" curve is quite steep. I'll still be using this to understand concepts a couple years from now I think.

For someone who has been mostly self taught, this book is so useful! I used to sometimes struggle with getting down basic figures of people, but this book made it easier to draw people. It's looser than other guidelines I've read that make you draw so tightly, with all the boxes and various other shapes. Not to say that approach doesn't have its merits, but in Sketching People, it has you draw more loosely which allows you to find the flow and movement of a body since people aren't machines after all. I still look at this book from time to time and would definitely recommend.

Great book
Easy to follow steps on drawing people. The is a great book for beginners and up.. Also good add on with the book "Drawing on the the right side of the brain".

An imitation taken from better resources
Much of this book appears to be a re-hash of other's techniques. Chapters 2 & 3 as well as his conception of the head and skull seem to be a replay on Glenn Vilppu's work, while Chapter 4 appears to rely heavily on Burne Hogarth's "Dramatic Wrinkles and Drapery". Other parts look a lot like Andrew Loomis' books. Robert Barrett's Life Drawing covers rendering far more in depth. All these guys were masterful, all have easily obtainable books or videos. If you want a quick overview of the topics covered in this book accompanied by some mediocre drawings, it's probably not too bad for the price. I'd rather pay more and go to the originals. Overall, a disappointment.

I love this book!
I took a figure drawing class last summer and wanted to take another class to keep my skill up. I got this book as instead because I can't really afford to take another class. So far this book is just as good if not better than taking a class. If you can find some time to sit down, this book is going to help you a lot.

Very useful.
This book is nice because it's very cut and dry. It's simple and very useful without any fluff. The concepts are easy to understand, and the illustrations are not unattainable by the average artist.

simple & helpful
I'm in a field with a lot of linear thinkers, so I found myself doodling to let off steam and keep in touch with my creative, out-of-the-box self. I got sick of drawing pathetic little flowers and wanted a little coaching on drawing people. This book offers step by step guidance, and I can keep it with me on my i-Phone. Fabulous!
