The Oxford Spanish Dictionary is the very best all in one reference source available for teachers, their students, and at home self taught language learners. The following is a summary from Second Sale: "This internationally acclaimed dictionary is widely used as a key reference tool by language professionals. With over 300,000 words and phrases, and half a million translations, and packed full of grammatical and usage information for both languages, it is the most authoritative Spanish bilingual dictionary available. Excellent for Usage and Coverage
I have found the Oxford Spanish Dictionary to be an excellent reference. I also have other spanish-english dictionaries as well as the "Diccionario Esencial de la Lengua Española" which I used extensively before buying the Oxford. I now find that I do not need the others. The coverage is better than the Diccionario Esencial and the examples in the Oxford are excellent. I particularly appreciate how it does not even attempt to provide an English equivalent for many Spanish termd but rather provides extensive examples, with translation, for how they may be used. I have been recently been reading 19 century short stories in Spanish and this dictionary has been a godsend for find many of the more obscure or colloquial terms.

COMMENTS after receiving this dictionary
I can't further criticize it as it is so perfect for any basic learning for Spanish ; however, the font style is so small which make anyone who wants to review them clearly ..it is a must to using a pair of special glasses or by means of magnifier .. Furthermore, if the dictionary publication can add voice sounds in online google play or language sites, the learning effect will be better FINALLY, it will increase learners reading ability ..it is still very good ! shipping delivery is excellent with any delay

The Spanish Language
I am learning Spanish and wanted a dictionary that covers a large percentage of the words that I will come to use and this tome is it. This large book covers both English and Spanish words and their meanings as well as help aids in both languages. If you are studying a language than I recommend that you get an Oxford Dictionary. They also come with an online dictionary that you can use anywhere you are. I love it.

What's not to love about this dictionary
What's not to love about this dictionary? It's chock full of all kinds of words. If all you have is a Bantam Spanish-English paperback dictionary or something like that you will need to supplement with a larger more complete dictionary for day-to-day use. And yes, 33$ is a lot to pay in this day and age where electronic information makes print media redundant. However, I like to have the actual book itself from time to time. And you will find it a good investment, because you will use it year after year. It has all kinds of slang and culinary references. For example: chupi = great chupin = fish stew The English section is quite a bit larger than the Spanish section, though the Spanish section is quite large. The entry words are in blue, while the definitions are in black. Pretty easy to read. Paper quality is actually a little on the thin side, but not ridiculously so. Overall, an excellent reference work.
