I jumped for joy when FedEx arrived and quickly unpacked my treasure
I was extremely excited to get this product as I have five children and, as a military family, we are trying to become more self sufficient. I jumped for joy when FedEx arrived and quickly unpacked my treasure. I read the manual and made sure I knew what I was doing. Since my wheat berries are frozen and not dried out, I decided to run some corn through to "get rid of contaminates" as per the manual. Within a minute (not kidding) this thing stopped spinning, started spewing smoke, and now my house smells like burnt popcorn. I called the number in the book and was informed that I would have to pay shipping both ways to get this thing repaired. Seriously?! I just paid $218 for it!!! Yep, it's being returned. For the price paid and the fact that this happened the first time I used it, I should be getting a replacement for free. I, however, do not trust this product at all now and will not be purchasing another one.

... little over 3 months ago and I was very happy with it
I purchased this a little over 3 months ago and I was very happy with it. It came quickly and it worked perfectly. It is a bit noisy and so I use ear plugs when it is grinding. However after using it to grind about 40 pounds of hard, white wheat which took about 10 minutes every week for the 12 weeks I used it, it smelled like it was burning up. It didn't burn up because I stopped using it and called The WonderMill Company in Pocatello, Idaho. The first two fellows I spoke to said," Run a cup of rice through it to make sure it's not clogged." I knew it wasn't clogged but I did as they asked. Then I called them back and spoke with a woman who asked what the problem was. When I explained that I had called earlier and why and that I was now calling back to find out how they were going to help me. She said, "Yeah, I have smelled burnt motors and burnt wheat. So go to our website and fill out the repair request form and send it to us. Just send the motor unit back. Make sure it's well packaged and insured."So here's the thing- this WonderMill is only 3 months old and it was burning up. It had only been used about 2 hours. Did WonderMill say, "Gee, we're sorry you're having a problem?" No, they did not. Not once. They expected us to send it to them at our expense and also include either a check or a credit card number to pay for return shipping! So our cost in this thing is now $43 more than it was and it is now a repaired item, not new. I was shocked this was their customer service for a 3 month old item. I would understand if it was a year old or more.I do have it back and it has been repaired so we will see how long this one lasts. It does do a great job grinding but I would have purchased a different Grinder/Mill if I knew this is how I would be treated by The WonderMill Company of Pocatello, ID.

It gets the job done!
Grinds wheat berries all day long, and never misses a step. Since that's what I bought it for, I certainly can't fault it for that.Things I wish were better:I wish the grind settings were a bit more precise. There are three available settings from coarse to fine, but in truth I can't tell much of a difference between any of them. When the last of the grains go down the hopper, it tends to spit a few of them out onto the countertop or floor. Now that I know that, I've taken to covering the hopper with my hands or a dish, etc., thereby preventing the seeds from flying out.It is a bit noisy, especially when you first turn it on and before filling the hopper. It gets better when you fill it.Advice: let the flour canister sit for a few minutes after grinding. If you open it right away, static electricity causes the chaff to fly out all over the place. Resting it for a minute or two, then perhaps slapping the side or tamping the entire canister down on the counter eliminates a potential mini-mess.

Mill as-needed rather than milling a lot and storing the flour
Try this: mill your grains just before making your dough. I usually go from grain to dough within minutes. I do store some milled flour in mason jars for roux etc., but my bread and pasta flours are as-needed. Not only is the taste as good as it gets, but when your bread dough rises you may get concerned that it’s rising too much and will overflow the bread pan. Just a few days stored as flour diminishes the rise.

Perfect for bread flour
My wife saw this in action on YouTube so I purchased one to make bread flour. It’s very well built, simple to use and does a great job of milling wheat.

makes it easy to grind grains
I gave this a four because it came defective, spewing flour all over the counter. I was going to return it, but before that I searched other sites for someone who had this...

It mills okay, but has some draw backs in design
We bought this mill because my wife can't eat gluten. So we want to mill quinoa and other small grains to make gluten free bread.

Wondermill performs.
We are milling hard winter wheat for whole wheat flour. Set the dialbetween pastry and bread and got a very smooth flour. Noise level was very tolerable.

Goes a wonderful job on hard white wheat berries and produces a nice fine flour. Noisy when running empty but not much louder than a vacuum cleaner.

How well it grinds grain uniformly
This is a very quiet mill. I love how well it works! I cannot wait to try other grains in it. Thank you for such expedient service.
