Great Starter Scope
Like many said you will soon want a 3x Barlow. My biggest issue is the flimsy tripod, I would suggest a better mount but honestly beyond some frustration keeping planets in focus on max zoom- and with the slightest gust of wind destroying your view- it does its job. The small sighting scope was useless, went in the trash. You don't really need that though, this is more of a scope for viewing the inner planets. You can eyeball that pretty easily even at high zoom. 1- You can see the rings of Saturn. That's the biggest thing that made me want a scope. 2- The moon is awesome to look at- but you will need sunglasses so keep that in mind. I suggest a polarization filter. Unscrew the metal tube at the bottom of the lens to thread one in. 3- Daytime views are pretty good too. I can read the name of a large boat from a couple miles. It's portable enough to go bird watching if you have a good vantage point. Definitely would be great for Big Cypress in FL- view the birds coming in at sunset. I will definitely need to upgrade at some point but for the money, it's a good scope to jump into exploring the night sky.

good optics, horrible mount system
I bought this for a camping trip at the last minute to have a portable telescope. Optics are great and in the dark sky I was able to see the Orion Nebula really well. The Pleides also looks great. Comes with a couple eyepieces that I think are worth the value of the scope in itself. Those eyepieces are good ones, not amazing ones, but good to be easy to see. The tripod is a simple camera mount so not very sturdy and wind can easily move. to be expected and I'm okay with that part. However the mount system is horrible for a telescope. Makes it impossible to track sky objects or move from one spot to another easily, doesn't allow for fine adjustments. Overall the mount is horrible and worthless for star observing. That said, if you plan to use for terrestrial use, it will be just fine. I plan on upgrading the mount as that should be easy to change out with something I design and print. Overall I am very happy with the purchase for the price.

Solid Starter Telescope, But the Stand Is a Major Flaw
★★★☆☆ (3/5 Stars) The Celestron Travel Scope 80 is a very good beginner telescope, especially for those who want something portable and lightweight. The 80mm aperture provides acceptable views on completely clear nights when using the included stock eyepieces (10mm and 20mm). Under these conditions, I was able to get clear views of the Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter, including 3–4 of Jupiter’s moons, which is impressive for an entry-level scope. The entire setup is easy to transport and comes with a backpack, making it great for travel, camping, or quick backyard sessions. For beginners, the optics are decent and provide a good introduction to astronomy. However, the biggest weakness is the tripod/stand. It’s made from very lightweight aluminum and plastic, and after multiple nights of use, the internal gears stripped completely. When we opened it up, we discovered that all the gears were plastic, which explains the failure. Even before breaking, the stand was not very steady. The issues become especially obvious when using higher magnification with a Barlow lens. The tripod lacked steadiness, and even small adjustments caused noticeable shaking. It became very difficult to manually adjust and track objects, which made observing at higher magnification frustrating and impractical. Final thoughts: The telescope itself is worth keeping, but the stand is not built to last or support upgrades. If you buy this scope, plan on replacing the tripod with something more robust—ideally one with a higher payload capacity and the option to add motorized tracking in the future. Great optics for beginners, but the stand holds this telescope back.

Perfect Camping Telescope!
We used this telescope for stargazing calculator when glamping all over North and Central America with our cats in our cosmic "Los Gatos Casita" travel trailer. We also developed an easy to use stargazing calculator that we use to assist with our Astrophotography. If interested, this calculator and details of our telescope and travel trailer modifications that we made to accomplish this and photos of some of our travels may found by Googling our travel trailer name.
