A Fantastic Animated Film
This is a Blu Ray/DVD/Digital combo pack of Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. The film is beautifully animated; featuring a unique artstyle that invokes the comic book source material, special animation styles for the different main characters, and dynamic expressions on all of the Spider-people. This film also provides a great storyline, introducing general audiences to Miles Morales as he gains spider powers akin to Peter Parker and has to come into his own in order to save his reality. At the same time he gets help other Spider-people from other universes including another Peter B Parker (who is older and weary of years of being Spider-Man), Spider-Gwen (Gwen Stacy from a world where she got the powers), Spider-Man Noir (from a black-and-white world set in the 1920's), Spider-Ham (a cartoon pig), and Peni Parker (anime girl with a Spider-themed mech). Miles and Peter B get the majority of the screen time/character arcs, but the other Spider-people have good characterization that make them fun to watch. This combo set includes a Blu Ray disk, a standard DVD disk, and a digital code. It's nice to have a standard DVD along with the Blu Ray disk, and a digital code is indeed included despite it not being mentioned on the box. Highly recommended for fans of super heroes, fans of animation, and fans of good storytelling.

A fantastic Movie
I am in love with this movie. The amount of love and care that went into it is outstanding! The art style is amzing, fun, creative, and just a joy to look at. The animation, the mix of primarily 3D with 2D accents blend so well together, that going back to see all the little details paints the movei in a little bit different light each time. The sound track!! Every song, from the original score and by other artists were perfectly placed into the story. I live the new theme they made for Spiderman in this film, and the Hip Hop! Oh my god, this movie made me fall in love with Hip Hop, if I didn't like it before. I love the story. Starting the film off showing us the Spiderman we all know and love, that many of us have grown up with, and then showing us the new fresh Spiderman. This movie had me feeling everything Miles went through. I was sold that he was feeling every moment of panic, happiness, terror, excitement. His story here is incredible, and I cannot wait to see more, or somthing very much like this in the future. This is easily one of, if not THE best animated movie I have ever experienced. I would love to say so much more, but there are many others who have said it better than I have. This movie has influenced me and many others in great ways, hopefully inspiring them to do great things. I know it did for me.

Great fun playing with all kinds of Spider Man elements
I'm not a big Marvel Comic Universe geek, and my favorite Spider Man remains Toby Maguire. I watched the TV cartoon that the movie references, and I caught some other bits and pieces too - plus the inevitable Stan Lee cameo. That said, I'm sure there were plenty of things that a true Spider Man/Marvel Comics aficionado would catch that I missed. What I love about this movie is how much fun it has playing with the whole Spider Man mythology...if that's the right word. It both takes it seriously and doesn't hesitate to poke it in the eye, and that's where so much of the fun occurs. The movie is dynamic, irreverent, yet respectful and celebratory. Watching it, I got the feeling that the people behind it were having a heckuva a good time, and they enlisted a lot of terrific talent for the voices. Lily Tomlin is an inspired choice as Aunt May, and I love the performance Brian Tyree Henry gives as Miles's father - especially the scene when he's talking to Miles over the PA of his police cruiser, which gave me one of the biggest laughs of the movie. It was a great "Dad moment." Mahershala Ali as Miles's cool-but-shady Uncle Aaron is terrific too, and Liev Shreiber is perfect as Kingpin. I really enjoyed having a female Doc Oc (Kathryn Hahn) in this version too - every inch the clever and diabolical villain, and a wicked twist on the original. The animation took some adjustment at first, but I quickly got comfortable with it. By the end, I was thoroughly enjoying it, and I found the whole thing really satisfying. There are lots of powerful themes about family, love and loss, but I think the movie handles them all pretty adroitly, interspersing humor and enough visual razzle-dazzle to keep everyone engaged. And though I'm not a big fan of rap and hip-hop, I thought the soundtrack fit the movie beautifully. In short, I think this is a great movie. It's a serious homage to Spider Man while being fun, funny, and irreverent too. It held up just as well on the second viewing, and I'll be watching it again. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Spider Man.

Fantastic Movie Marred by Terrible Subtitles
Okay, this may seem petty, especially considering I'll flat-out state I loved this movie. This is hands-down the best Spider-Man film to date with wonderful characterizations, great comedy, fantastic action scenes, and a satisfying and meaningful plot. The characters in this movie are in top-form, especially the "main" trio of Peter B. Parker, Gwen Stacy, and Miles Morales. The character arc of Miles coming into his own is definitely the best it's ever been told, and Miles' background and culture play vital roles in how he grows and develops as a person. It's nice to see a Spider-Man whose family unit is fully functional, and supportive of him in all aspects of his life. Aunt May is a sweetheart in the comics, but I have never seen her and Peter exhibit the amazing bond that Miles and his parents share. The backstories of our main cast are really well executed as well, They're told in short recaps with comic panels illustrating the more important parts of the characters. ***SPOILERS*** In terms of the main plot, the only thing that really disappointed me was the lack of a proper character moment between Gwen and Peter. You gotta remember that these two were at some point a couple in most comics that have been published, and before that they were lifelong friends. But in their respective comics, the other person dies. You see Gwen accidentally killing Peter as the Lizard in her flashback, but Peter also accidentally kills Gwen in his book by causing her neck to snap after he stops her from free falling. My favorite part of ANY Spider-Verse shenanigans are the reactions Peter and Gwen have towards each other being alive. It's always touching to see these two people who have such a strong connection re-unite again after so long. That didn't really happen in this movie, which is a bit of a shame. I know Peter is a lot older and is contending with his feelings for MJ, but still, it would've been nice to see some kind of reaction between the two. ***/SPOILERS*** Now then, let's talk about the subtitles, the literal only thing that brought this review down. Unfortunately, I have to grade this product as a whole, and that whole is marred by terrible subtitles. They'll often be squished together, they'll disappear mid-sentence and then come back in the middle of the same sentence, certain sfx are displayed while others aren't, they're improperly timed, and they rarely distinguished who was talking in this film. In a movie where you constantly have to glance down to see what's being said, it's hard to tell who's talking when the only indicator for our main cast is whose lower mask is slightly moving. Now I myself am not hearing impaired, I just enjoy turning on subtitles in case I miss pieces of dialogue. But these would be awful for anything who requires them to enjoy the movie. I seriously hope Amazon or whoever can re-do them at some point, because they are the one piece of this movie that absolutely drags it down. If they're fixed later on, I'll come back and edit my review to give it the full five stars it deserves.

Perfect Spiderman Intro For Young Kids
Of all the superhero comics growing up Spiderman was never one I got into for some reason. Nowadays, Spiderman is everywhere which has piqued my 4-year-old daughter's curiosity about the character. Before COVID, my city started offering movie in the park nights and this movie was one of the ones featured. When my daughter began asking to watch Spiderman my mind hearkened back to this movie. Since it's not available for free streaming I went ahead and bought it because the animation is a work of art and the music is fantastic. I'm very happy to have a story that includes POC and female characters in leading and important roles and am delighted that Miles' and Gwen's relationship focused on ending in a friendship over romance. I think it's very important to show young children that people of all races and genders can be friends, especially in our current political climate. And with a plotline that is empowering, it teaches that no matter who you are "anyone can wear the mask" which means everyone has the capability to act heroically, doing good things for other people and becoming the best version of themselves they can be. Just wonderful.
