Good sound - less wind noise
I am using a Canon Vixia M400 out in the wind and the internal mic was getting horrible results. I really needed to do something. I searched and searched for a solution, and the SG-108 Boom Mic sounded like it might work. The reviews for this and identical products with similar names had mixed reviews, but mostly positive. I decided to give it a try. When the package arrived I quickly mounted it to my camera (using an Shoe Adapter, MSA-1 also from Amazon) and started playing. The new mic was working great! Blowing on the mic did show that I might still have some issues with wind, and I suspected I would. The sound quality on the 90 degree setting was very nice. If I talked from behind the camera, it still picked up my voice, but it was at an acceptable level. It also did a very nice job of blocking other noises that were not in front on the mic. Time to take the camera out in the real world and see how she does. Here is a sample video that has had no editing done to it: vimeo dot com/54003908 In this video, the camera is in a steady and constant wind of about 15 mph. With the stock mic, or without the foam cover on the SG-108 the wind noise would be horrible. In this video it is a mild rumble. You can hear the faint wispers from the glider flying past, and voices from the guys. I recently picked up a "dead cat" wind filter that fits over the black foam. (Micover Slipover Windscreen for RODE VideoMic VM, it is a little large, but I just folded some material inward and it now fits great.) Tests show improved results for this little mic. Hopefully will get out and test this setup soon. The only negative I have is the power switch on the mic. It only lights up the LED for a split second when you first turn it on. The only other time it lights up is if the battery is low. You need to remember to turn the mic on and off. (I occasionally forget to turn it on.) Very pleased, and would recommend this setup if you are looking for a cheap boom mic, or are interested in seeing if one will work well for your needs. You are not out a lot of cash, and it should work well on a large number of cameras.

Hate to write bad reviews for products
Hate to write bad reviews for products, but I bought this a while ago and have yet to use it because of the white noise. I tried everything to prevent the fuzzy sounds and gave up after the 2nd time using it. I'm pretty familiar with taking out white noise, but with this mic I've never had such bad problems. Upsetting.

Eh
Cheap printing and glue but Hi, it gets the job done!

Okay for the job.
Summary: Does the basic job as a starter, but do not expect crisp sounds without a hiss. I bought this for my T3i because I wanted to record a friend's music concert/fund raiser. I was positioned in a balcony, oposite the stage in the auditorium. The mic definitely picked up the sound like I was really close to the stage, but I was getting that slight hiss so I turned down the mic volume through the T3i menu and it reduced it. I thought this was a great solution, but for another set I forgot to plug in the mic and recorded off the T3i built-in mic. I uploaded it to my computer to listen to how it turned out, and the T3i built-in mic had less hiss than Shenggu. The sound volume was barely louder on the Shenggu (but I think my dog ears are the only ones that can notice the difference in this planet). I am selling mine used through amazon because I want to record music, so exceptional sound quality is paramount for my needs. I watched some youtube videos that show how you can tweak it to get better sound, but personally I don't mind dropping the money for a Zoom H1 or a Rode. Overall, Since it has a wind protector and is directional, it does the minimum job as a starter. Essentially you get what you paid for. This is what I recorded WITH the Shenggu: [...]

It's okay but there are better one's out there...
I was using this just for videos and I can't seem to hear the pin point connection in sound. I had compare it with the mic attach to the camera and also without it attach. There is no difference between the two, but for the price it's more trouble returning it than just to eat it...but other than that it looks good.. That's all I can tell you...

Great Mic for Great Price and It Enhances the Sound Experience
Works as described. It is super convenient with no extra attachments, as it attaches right to the camera without needing any additional wires or cables. It is perfect. Gets the job done. It outputs great sound for my videos. It makes a difference in how much louder and clearer the sound of my videos are. I use it with my Canon, T4i. I recommend it since I still have it after purchasing it several years. I hope you found my review helpful.

One star too many.
This mic doesn't work in DSLRs. It isn't worth purchasing. Don't buy it. It is a lot cheaper than the other mics and there's a reason for that. Don't get suckered.
