When these snap together they are too wide for the railing. What is the best way to secure them in place?

Silicone Caulk inside the Knuckle. Put a good Bead of Clear or color match Silicone on the inside of the Knuckle, put the knuckle in place and hold it in place with a clamp below it or tape it in place. Be sure that you use enough silicone to get a good hold on the railing. You can wipe any excess that might ooze out. You could also use Siliconized Latex Caulk if you are going to paint the railing at some point.

Can the split knuckles be used as the shoes at the base of the baluster/indoor iron stair rails?

I purchased the split feet covers for the ends of the railings to cover the hardware and smaller decorative ones for the smaller middle rails I found them all to be a great solution, made well stays in place and looks great.

Do you have 1/2” split shoes? Bought a house with a finished iron staircase and I need shoes to cover the holes.
