The elegant simplicity of timber frame construction is made accessible to all levels of builders with step-by-step building instructions for one small, easy-to-build timber frame cabin, along with plans for modifying it to suit particular needs and locations. Veteran timber framer Will Beemer takes you through the entire process of building a traditional timber frame from start to finish, beginning with timber sourcing and ending with a finished building. Using full-color photos, detailed drawings, and clear step-by-step instructions, Beemer shows exactly how to build one small (12สน x 16สน) structure suitable for use as a cabin, workshop, or studio. He also explains how to modify the structure to suit your needs and location by adding a loft, moving doors or windows, changing the roof pitch, or making the frame larger or smaller. Youโll end up with a beautiful building as well as solid timber-framing skills that you can use for a lifetime. This publication conforms to the EPUB Accessibility specification at WCAG 2.0 Level AA. maybe-enough knowledge to do a first project
I feel like this book has enough knowledge to do exactly the proscribed first project, and if everything goes according to plan it should work. I feel like it's missing alternatives and backup plans and what to do if things aren't ideal. It's probably worthwhile as a gentle introduction to show you all the parts. I'll probably follow this with more research on joinery to think about other kinds of joints I might use instead of the few outlined in this book so that I can have more flexibility in design.

Start to finish, this book covers it all
A great book. I got this a few months prior to winter (and to starting my project) and it has been excellent. In addition to educating me on the things I knew I did not know, it also helped me discover the things I didnโt even know I didnโt know. It is written in a format that allows you to think and discover the process. What I really liked was that it took me step by step through the process giving me both knowledge as well as questions I needed to figure out prior to starting my project. I am looking forward to the spring when I can begin to play with the new tools, the new knowledge, and the new workshop I extend to build.

EXCELLENT Publication ! ! !
I finally obtained a book that actually showed Joints, Planning, Layout, and all steps to take to build a Log Structure ! This is a Loaded Color Picture Book with simple straight forward explanations ! Other publications I have bought have left me wondering why I wasted money for Faded Black & White PICs with minimal examples. This Book is Worth Every Penny ! ! !

Great overview of everything timber frame
After getting the infectious idea to build a cabin I started buying books on the subject. This seems to be the best starting book. I now own a half dozen books. I intend to re-read this a second time through before starting the next one. I have been using FreeCAD to build 3D printed frame joinery models and to compare tansu loft access options. This book has helped with every aspect. Allowing me to start collecting the tools required, as I research and finalize my design. Very happy to also learn of the local school where I can learn propper skills in a guided hands on manner.

If you want to actually build a timber frame, buy this book!
I'm building my first timber frame building, which is a shed. I have read six different books on the matter, including from Jack Sobon and Tedd Benson. This book is by far the best book I have ever read on the subject of actually going through the process of making the structure in a detailed step-by-step way. For a beginner, this is invaluable. This book doesn't go into all the history and theories so much, but I didn't want that in this book. I got all the history and theory from other books, now I want better "newbie" instructions on how to get out there and build it. With this book, I am finally so convinced that I know what I am doing that I can go out there and build. I ordered my white oak timbers from a local sawmill, bought the basic tools, and am all fired up and ready to go. To summarize, if you want to actually go out and build a timber frame (vs. a historical read on history and theory), buy this book! Thank you Will Beemer for this masterpiece!

Excellent Book!
I am about to build a smallish cabin on a piece of forestry land I own. I am a very experienced carpenter but have never timber framed and wanted to build the cabin in that style. This book has a very nice plan in it and it is packed with valuable information. I am certain with this book alone I will be able to construct a timber frame building. Material list, tool list, with power and hand options, very good, simple to read illustrations, and lots of information about understanding wood characteristics.

Truly excellent and richly illustrated book
A truly amazing book, full of decades of insight and wonderful photos and illustrations. The author has a great skill of simplifying things and making them easy to follow. As different parts of a timber frame house are discussed, illustrations highlight where in the overall build the currently discussed detail and joint is located. Brilliant idea. It takes a holistic approach and covers every relevant detail, from sourcing the wood and learning about wood types, to joints, and erecting the final build. It came recommend by the teacher of a timber frame course I attended in Wales, and I would like to pass on this recommendation.

Great resource for homeowner and aspiring timber framer.
I have been a member of the Timber Framers Guild for a few years, Will has always been in integral part of the TFG, his efforts have always been appreciated as honest, true to the craft while promoting the art. The book touches on a little bit of everything. It is difficult to be all things to all people, a difficult task, but Will hits on all relevant points without being overwhelming. I would consider the book as a solid resource for anyone considering building a timber frame home to understand the multiple factors involved in our craft. I also consider the book a great, likely the best, resource for new, aspiring timber framers - it is well rounded, technical without being technical, and offers insight beyond the typical scope. In the end, great value, great resource and kudos to the author for a job well done! All in all, highly recommended, written well, book design and layout is great and, I believe, a valuable addition to any timber framers library.

Buen libro, muy moderno, con fotos a color. explica muy bien todo el proceso; incluye unos planos generales pero suficientes para construir una casa de 5 x 3. 5 m , explica como hacer todas las uniones.
