What prevents a thief from just removing the rack from the car with your skis in them?

It takes some time to remove the ski rack. Someone mentioned a security screw but mine did not have them. However, its just not that quick to remove and unless your leaving them in the system overnight you wouldnt have anything to worry about. The risk reward is just too low to spend 15-20 minutes trying to remove a ski rack that you are unfamiliar with for a bunch of used ski/snowboard equipment.

Does this rack work for high speeds? Taking a road trip and will be traveling highway speeds?

Yes. I fastened them onto my crossbar racks and drove interstate highways most of the way with 5 pairs of skis. No issues. Great rack!
