Women: A Pictorial Archive from Nineteenth-Century Sources (Dover Pictorial Archive)

An absolutely stunning book filled with gorgeous wood engraving illustrations, wow! I love these books Dover puts together, as I own the Real and Fanciful Animals collection one, as well as Women Illustrators of the Golden Age. My only complaint about this book, however, and the animal one would be that I wish the artist's names were included in small captions near each of these illustrations. Or at least included on an index page on the back. I understand this is copyright free and archival works, but it would still be nice to see the artist behind each or all. Other than that, I highly, highly recommend this book, along with most other books in this series by Dover, as they are fantastic reference guides for current artists now. :)

It has a nice variety of subject matter. It will work great for collage. The quality of some of the images is not 100%. However, if you are doing it for collage, it will still be great even if you are using the images as your central figure. I do alot of cut and paste collage using just magazine images and a glue stick. This book is perfect for that. There is a very good variety of large and small images. Lots of in between to. The only only down side is that there are images on both sides of the page, so you must choose. Other than that, I am excited to get in it. I bought mine used and it was a great bargain. I do not think it would be a disappointing purchase for anyone using it for collage. I just really love it.

I am absolutely in love with these beautiful images. My only complaint is that it came slightly crinkled and I wish that they weren't double sided pages since I will be using it for collages, that's why I'm taking off 1 star but would give 4.5 if I could.

This book is great for those interested in artwork of the past, as well as those wanting to use these works to create their own art. There is a wide variety of different activities, poses, etc. the women are in. Most women depicted are white and straight-sized though. The book arrived in great condition and I am overall happy with it!

All black and white, mostly large images too big for junk journals and then I began to see all the bare breasted women. Yeah, totally inappropriate for a junk journal. No thanks.

This book is awesome. So many images. I do wish that on the back of each page they would've left blank so I can cut out for collage and not lose the image on the other side, other than that I am happy.

I purchased this book as drawing reference but it's so much fun just to look at! Each page contains drawings of women in any pose and action you could ever want. It's all black and white, but it's beautifully constructed and worth the money. I even ordered a second one for my friend. Great for old art appreciators and art students alike!

un magnifique ouvrage , il aurais mériter un papier plus glacé mais les illustrations sont très belles !!en 120 page grand format il montre essentiellement des gravures du dix-neuvièmes siècles représentant des femmes d'époques . vraiment un très bon bouquin, pour admirer ou pour apprendre en observant les traits de toutes c'est gravures une façon différente le dessin. je recommande fortement se livre
