Complete Works of Aristotle, Vol. 1 [Aristotle, Jonathan Barnes] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Complete Works of Aristotle, Vol. 1 Review: sitting on the shoulders of giants - I like to go straight to the source. Aristotle establishes a way to figure out the truth. Very well structured giving examples on how to communicate and figure it if a thesis is flawed. Some of the stuff such as Histories of Animals is boring but it is the first practical observations of the real world. Sophitical Refutations is the most beneficial book. Review: Marvelous- It's ALL in here folks! (BOTH VOLUMES) - I studied philosophy in a French speaking Institute in Europe. These two volumes came in very handy. The first question that may come to mind for those shopping for Aristotle is whether it's necessary to purchase the "Complete Works" and not just a volume of Major Works. In fact, it's not necessary- you'll get so much enrichment from even one major work of The Philosopher, especially with the aid of a competent professor. However, the complete works will ensure you that you have everything, and provide a good deal more reading enjoyment (even Aristotle's final will and testament is printed in Vol. II). Aside from that, the translations contained in these works are considered the best available in English (and perhaps any) language other than the original Greek. To testify to this fact, some of my native French professors would occassionally ask to borrow my volumes to make photocopies of certain passages (or more), telling me that they felt the English translations were far better done than those in their native tounge! (And we know how much the French care for their native tounge!) All in all, excellent books and money well spent.

Half of the Complete Works
Half of the complete works. This includes the Physics, all the logical works, and all the genuine scientific works of Aristotle. For ethics, politics, and metaphysics you need to buy volume 2. Don't listen to the negative views. Since this just volume 1, of course it's not going have everything. You need to buy both volumes for that.

Your Library Needs This Book
If you’re looking to buy Aristotle’s complete works, chances are that you already know a good deal about him, so I needn’t take the time here to review the writings contained herein as such. (Note: I could be wrong, since my line of reasoning was merely dialectical and not demonstrative. In the event I am mistaken, just read some of the other reviews here.) As for the product itself: I have no complaints whatsoever. Binding, etc. all look fantastic. My appended photographs ought to give you an idea of the dimensions, contents of this volume, and the translations used therein (e.g., this volume’s Categoriae is “homonymous/synonymous” rather than “equivocal/univocal”!).

Another High Quality Seller
As I noted in my review of Volume I, I can't comment on the quality of the translation as I have no basis for doing so. This seller also provided a volume in pristine condition that looks just as it would from the printer.

Shout out to Ubisoft
Ever since I started playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, I've been intrested in Ancient Greece and how've they lived in those times.. I got so hooked that i had to buy some books from one of ancient Greece's famous philosophers.. I got AC Odyssey music playing in the background as I'm typing this hahaha

Namaste
Makes for a great pair of yoga blocks when combined with volume 2.

Complete writings
It really is the complete works in two volumes. The writing is clear, but a little small understandably. I only wish there was commentary to help us understand more. Maybe a three volume set would’ve been better but this is still good. It certainly saves money to buy two books and be done with it instead of dozens.

Nothing to add more to one of the books that everyone should read in his own life.

Seja como for, recomendo fortemente a obra.

Excelente tradução, mesmo não sendo bilíngue. Há várias remissões a outras traduções, inclusive à clássica de Sir David Ross. Vale a pena.
