SUUNTO MCB: Simple sighting mirror compass that floats

My husband got this compass and is really pleased with it. He says he likes the capability of the sighting and the mirror.

I wish it at least came in packaging that could protect it a little in my pocket or bag, since it is definitely not sturdily built. The hinge should not be expected to handle a lot of use, and the little clip-on whistle that also attaches the cord to the compass snapped the first time I used it. Normally, I'd give something far fewer stars, with problems like those, but it is shockingly difficult to find an accurate compass in this price range. I recommend making a case or pouch that can be attached to a cord.

Alright but for a suunto the plastic hinge is questionable. Not sure how long this will last with use. Was dissapointed that it did not have a standard metal hinge.

Excellent compass

This compass is a bargain! It's a great size, and lightweight. It's both precise and accurate. I appreciate that it floats. The mirror is clear and can be used for signaling. For ~$20, you can't go wrong. Do not be put off by some of the negative reviews. I hesitated buying this one, but trusted my gut knowing this is from Suunto. I do not think it's fragile as some reviews have suggested. It'll hold up just fine being shoved in a pack, or taking falls on a trail. Though I'm sure if you smash it with some rocks you can break it. The mirror is also not cloudy as some have reported; you need to remove the film protecting it. If you want other features, or "higher quality" materials (which will weigh more too), then you're looking at something in a higher price point.

Suunto quality in a smaller size

This plastic compass looks and feels like it should sell for $3 instead of $30. The hinge is just a bendable plastic, probably would break over time. It does seem stable, however, and for that reason alone, I gave the compass a four star rating.

Here’s the thing, I love the size, but the dial seems cheap which is not a huge deal and I can accept that because I think it will work fine. The lid is plastic and it really does not have a hinge it is bendable plastic I cannot see it lasting for more than 2-5 years at the absolute most. I sent it back and got the mc2 GLOBAL for 15 dollars more it was a no brainer. I will never be in South Africa but I have a10 year old and you don’t need to keep the compass absolutely level much easier to use. One or two bad readings and you could be lost, I will spend the extra 15 bucks for a compass that I may be able to pass down to my kids easier and safer to use and won’t definitely be broken in a couple of years.

La brujula será buena pero no vale lo que cuesta. La carcasa de plástico y la visagra del mismo plástico plegado... Parece un juguete. Devuelta.

Good product but DON'T BUY IF YOU ARE IN AUSTRALIA. The product is made for the northern hemisphere only. so why is it for sale on Amazon AUS???
