The HD version is even better in performance. However, a few drawbacks make it only 3 stars from my point of view. First, the accesories, including lens caps, strape, and carring bag are all low quality designs. The lens caps are virtually useless. They never stay in place correctly when carried around. The strape is poorly designed too. The material used to make those items are really low quality. You had beeter to find replacement parts from other manaufacturers for better functioning with the binocular itself. Another problem with the Meopta design is that the front object lenses are too exposed to outside. Ideally, the housing tubes should extent a little more to provide enough room to protect the lens surface. But for MEOSTAR, that extra space is non-exist. So the lens surface are easily getting dirty. The lens does not have the water repelling coating. That makes the problem worse. My suggestion to Meopta: extend the lens barrel length a little more, add the teflon coating to the front and rear glass surfaces, which more and more binoculars have this technology today even at a lower price range, and re-design the accessories. If you really are attracted by the optic performance of the MEOSTAR, then buy a good pair of lens protection covers and a good strape from third party venders. I'm not talking about comparing then in a well lit store, I tested these at dusk and the quality far exceeded my expectations. Not only was the light gathering ability excellent but there was zero eye strain which allowed me to look through these binoculars without any kind of trouble.
