Yes please hold your luggage still for around 3 seconds, once the weight is successfully measured, you will see a letter "H" appears on the screen, that means your luggage weight value was locked, you will have almost 1 minute to read the value. We read some answers that mentioned it does not maintain the reading after removing the luggage, actully, as we mentioned above, if you hold your luggage still for about 3 seconds untill you see "H" appears, you will have about 1 minute to read even you remove the luggage.

Q: Does it have auto shut off if left on?

It turns off automatically when not in used after a few minutes. I purchased approximately 6 months ago and the batteries are still good.
