Great Light For a Shirt Pocket
EDIT 11/30/15: It seems this light hasn't gotten much attention. The other Pelican 1920 light with a lot of reviews appears to be the old model, with 67 lumens of output. This one, the new model, has a high mode of 120 lumens and a low mode of 12 lumens. High when you need it, low when you need your battery to last longer. I purchased it in August for $28.75, and have no regrets. It is now selling for $23.80, which is quite a deal, in my opinion. I have carried it frequently over the last few months in a shirt pocket, and it has been fantastic. The build quality is great, and the momentary on feature is a must when turning the light on and off frequently for short periods of time. Someone listed the weight of this light as 2 pounds. That is clearly way off, as it is the same size and weight as the previous 1920 (I believe, as they take the same batteries and have the same pictures, and that one is listed as 0.14 pounds). There are also many typos in the listing, which I cannot explain, but do not detract from the solid quality of a Pelican product. EDIT 10/10/15: added a picture of this light next to a handful of other lights. Inova XS, Streamlight Microstream, Pelican 1910, Coast G19, Pelican 1920, and the Inoxa XP. They are all AAA lights, only the Inova XP is 2xAAA like the Pelican 1920. All others are small 1xAAA lights, to get an idea of the size of the 1920. The Inova XP is quite a bit smaller, but does not have a clicky interface, it can only be turned on by twisting. I typically like single cell flashlights, but I was liking the Pelican 1910 so much that I figured I had to give this one a shot. It has higher output, a little bit better run time, and it fits just fine in my shirt pocket where I clip it. It's a bit cumbersome to operate in comparison to the smaller and more nimble 1910, but it has the same exact feel to the body, which is very solid construction, while being extended to fit another battery. The beam is just like the 1910. It has a pretty tight hot spot that is very useful for inspecting things close up, but it is especially throwy and great for seeing specific areas in the dark, either outside or in attics or crawl spaces. While having a tight hot spot, it does have a good amount of useful spill light that makes it good for walking or general lighting purposes in any dark spaces. It definitely isn't a flood light, and that's why I like it. The clip is secured to the light beneath the threads of the tailcap, so it is not going anywhere. That being said, it is a bit small for anything other than shirt pocket (thin material) use. On most pants material or even a thick shirt material, it would be difficult to get this clip to attach comfortably and easily without some sort of modification. Even on a thin cotton shirt pocket, I often have to pull the clip out with my fingers in order to get the front part of the clip over the fabric, or it tends to bunch up now and then. On the plus side, once clipped, I have never had this light fall out of my pocket when bending over (while other objects in the same pocket have fallen right out). The only negatives for me about this light are the beefiness of it (it is very thick for an AAA light, it almost seems like it could fit an AA inside it) and I am noticing that when shaken side to side, there is a noticeable battery rattle inside, so the fit doesn't appear to be completely secure or snug inside the battery tube. While being beefy is a negative on one hand, the light is still small compared to any AA lights, so it still has a pretty minimal profile, and I am sure that the extra thickness lends to it being an extremely durable light. I haven't dropped it or banged it around much, but I have the utmost faith in Pelican's products and I am confident that it will hold up to most, if not all, of the abuse it could be subjected to in dusty, dirty, greasy and wet environments.

Super happy with this, just one thing they could improve, but would buy again
------------------------ Update Review (3-14-2016) ------------------------------------ Well, something happened with the light that I thought was worthy of an update. I lost it! I was very upset, it was a good light and didn't want to have to spend money on another. At this point I had gotten used to carrying a light, it does come in handy, so I knew I needed another one. I went on amazon to start looking around again, to see if my tastes had changed. I ended up torn between Nextorch's K3, Nitecore's MT06, and this light, the Pelican 1920. As I was trying to decide, I ended up stumbling upon the light I thought I lost! It had slipped out of my pocket. This is something I had noticed the light doing quite a bit. The smooth metallic barrel of the light doesnt grip onto fabric much, and when sitting and standing a few times, your thigh can start to push the light out of your pocket. I had noticed it almost falling out a few times, this is the first time is just fell out. So, I found the light, I figured I should try to modify it again to keep it in my pocket. My original thought was to wrap it in grip tape, but I figured that would tear my pockets up. What I ended up deciding on was a product I had never used before called Self Fusing Silicone Rubber Tape. Its not sticky at all, it has no adhesive on it, feels l like plain rubber, but when it touches itself, it grabs on like crazy and wont come appart. I wrapped the center part in it, and now it will not budge in my pocket (see image). It is a little tougher getting in, but not as tough as it was before I bent the clip in the previous review. Overall I have had to modify this light in 2 ways, both regarding the clip, which might sound like its not a 5 star light, but to me it really is. Especially when I read reviews on the other two lights I was considering that say their clips break off... ------------------------- Original Review (1-16-2016) ------------------------------------ First off, the light source. You can probably find lights that claim more brightness, and maybe they actually are brighter, but you do need to consider battery life. More lumens requires more power, and you'll probably find your batteries draining pretty quick. Maybe you dont mind swapping batteries frequently, or maybe you'll never use your light, and if so, go for lumens. I found the LED in this light to be PLENTY bright for its application. It will illuminate out to maybe 75 feet pretty clearly. That is due in part to its reflector which I also think is the best way to go for a light like this. The reflector is smooth and deep, giving you a somewhat concentrated light. This gives it more distance in its throw. The spread isnt great, but you're getting a small light. If it spreads great, youre going to have a dim spread. Most penlights are only useful indoors. Because of the decent LED source and deep reflector, this can be adequate outdoors for point lighting. While Im near the topic of LED choices, you should also think about heat. A brighter diode is going to generate more heat, and let me tell you, this one generates some heat itself. When on dim mode, you can just leave it and it will be fine, but on bright mode, after about a minute it is noticeably warm, 3 minutes and it starts dimming because its pretty hot. Again, think of your application. You're probably not going to have this light on for more than 10 seconds. If you need it for 5 minutes, put it on dim mode. Dim mode (while 12 lumens sounds low) looks to the eye as about half as bright. (factor of 10 means about a factor of 2 to your eye). Since I've mentioned the modes, this light has 2 modes, bright and dim. PERFECT. I hate lights that have a thousand modes. The way the light lets you change modes is based around a timer. After your first press of the button (you dont have to click, it can operate with just pressing it down slightly) you have about 1 second to release and press it again and it will go into dim mode. You can then complete the press into a click to lock it there. If you turn the light off, it will reset after a second and be ready to go back to bright mode whenever you turn it on. Some people like their lights to start in dim mode. I think these people are silly. Their main argument is usually along the lines of wanting to maintain night adjusted vision. Well, just dont point the light directly at what you want to see. The amount of time it takes to switch to dim is the same amount of time it takes to blink your eyes, so do that. Fact of the matter is 80% of the time you turn your light on, you want to start in bright mode. I think thats all there is to talk about concerning the light source itself. Onto the rest of the light. The barrel is a littllleee too big (inner diameter) for my liking. You can shake the light and hear rattling from the batteries. I fixed this by wrapping 4 rechargeable AAA batteries I have dedicated for this light in electrical tape, about 1.5 times around and the slide in super smooth, and wont rattle with shaking. Another thing is, without the clip, the light will roll on sloped surfaces. The clip is cut in such a way that it cannot spin around while the end cap is screwed on, but if you take the clip off, it will roll. The clip is my main complaint with this knife, but its one you can fix. Its a good clip, thick, secured on well, but I think the shape is dumb. The way the tip is bent up, the designers must have been fitting this thing for a shirt pocket. It wont slide onto jeans or anything thicker without you bending the clip out with you finger. I fixed this (see image) by messing with the clip for about 10 minutes with a pair of pliers and some lever points. Now it can slide on anything and stay there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think thats all there is to say about this light. In short, I love this light and if mine breaks I will be getting another. Feel free to comment here if you want an update, I'll try to be quick.

So if you're like me, you are trying to decide between this ...
So if you're like me, you are trying to decide between this flashlight and the Stream Light Stylus Pro. Both use 2 AAA Batteries and both are exceptionally well made flashlights. I would give the Stylus a 5 star rating as well. I have carried both for years now. So how do you choose? Well here are the features I thought really set them apart. You decide what's important to you. The 1920 is a bit heavier and thicker. It feels a little better in your hand, but is just slightly bulkier in your pocket. It's brighter, maybe about 50% brighter, but at that setting, the battery life is about half (3 hours vs 6 hours with the Stylus Pro). One of the best features of the 1920 the 2 light output settings. The first click gives you the brightest light, but a second click gives you a much dimmer light. Great for finding your shoes while your wife is sleeping :-) The cool thing about the 1920 is that it always resets to the brightest setting when you first turn it on though. I hate the 6 function flashlights that you have to cycle through every time you use them. Either way you are putting a worthwhile tool in your pocket, but at the moment I am slightly more fond of the 1920. The brighter beam is worth the shorter battery life to me.

Great EDC light but needs a recessed button to really shine
I bought this as an EDC light for use with my carry pistol - it's primary job is lighting up potential bad guys in a iffy situation. For that purpose the Pelican is great; the 120 lumens "high" output is incredible and can rival my Pelican 8060 for effectiveness at closer ranges. It throws light downrange decently enough as well. The "low" setting lets you use it for the usual penlight tasks for a good long while without draining the battery. The big benefit of it is that it delivers brightness and only takes triple-As. It is a longer light, but the thin barrel means it'll fit in your pocket pretty well (in front or behind of your smartphone, for instance.) The clip is on there tight and won't let the right roll away. I've used and abused mine for two years and it seems to be pretty bulletproof, so there's no worry there. The biggest problem with this light is the lack of a recessed on/off button, which means that pocket carry is pretty much impossible for me. In a jacket pocket, hoodie pocket, etc., it's fine; but not in your jeans pants pocket, as the button gets hit too easily. Since the first mode is high-power by default (as it should be) this means that the light will end up draining itself fast and be dead flat when you need it the most. A properly recessed on/off button would drastically improve the flexibility of this light. Like any LED light it can catch you by surprise with low battery because there's no real dimming of the light like with old-fashioned bulbs as the batteries near their end. Since it takes mere triple-As instead of lithium batteries however, it's not painful to check and replace them every now and then. Overall, I'd recommend this as an EDC light, but if there was a competing light of the same general size and output with a recessed on/off button, I'd go for that instead. The inability to carry in one's pants pocket is extremely annoying. I hope Pelican releases an updated end-cap so current owners can upgrade their lights.

A fine light from Pelican
I live just a mile away from the Pelican plant in Torrance, so I drive by it quite frequently. I was curious about their products, and when I was looking for a light, bright small flashlight, I came upon the 1920 (and others by Pelican) on the Amazon site. I purchased the 1920 in September, 2012, and after using it periodically for around 10 months, I can say that it is an excellent product. The light is really bright for a small flashlight, and it is well focused, such that it makes quite a good search light if one shines it into the sky on a dark night. Having had many large lights using two "D" batteries, and being dissatisfied with their fuzzy beams, this light is a welcome addition to my household. Construction is high quality IMOP. I am very satisfied with it and called the Pelican plant just to tell them how much I liked it. The product seems to rate consistently high, and my review is no exception.

Perfect EDC light
I liked it so much I bought 2 more. This is now my EDC light and my wife's EDC. The 3rd light was modified to be mounted on my home defense rifle. I love the high quality of the tube and the warranty. I've carried an 8060 at work for years so I already knew about Pelican lights but now I have similar power in my pen pocket. I've used it daily in very cold weather with now issues. This light is very small, very powerful, very reliable, and very simple. I use rechargeable batteries and circulate new batteries if I use the light at all. We take lights seriously at my house and this light is our EDC.

Nice little Flashlight
Nice penlight. It is light weight and runs on 2 x AAA batteries which is nice because an extra set can easily be carried. The clip is very sturdy and the light is pretty bright for what it is. Pros: Light Weight Runs on 2 AAA batteries Nice pocket clip Has two light settings High/Low in On position Has two light settings High/Low in in Momentary Position. Cons: Might be a little big for a shirt pocket but carries well in pants pocket.

excellent, great, fantastic
the best little flashlight. buy them for work (my coworkers fight over them). you can attach them to a lanyard (bought from Pelican), and it's really secure (I'm not afraid the flashlight will fall off the lanyard). they're also really light for wearing around your neck on a lanyard. also, never had a problem with them turning on while being stored & wearing down their batteries. the light is very bright & very good for inspecting small areas. the light is neither too focused, nor too broad; very satisfied

Great for trades people !
Awesome light/product. I now own 3 of these. They’re really bright from far distances. The batteries don’t last long if you always use it on the high setting. Most times in dark spots though the low setting is perfect.

A nice rugged light if you're using it for short periods
I've been carrying it as a HD mechanic all day, every day for over a month now. Overall it's a nice rugged light if you're using it for short bursts. If you need it on for extended periods the weaknesses show. The body is very high quality and has survived a few solid drops (6-10ft) and being totally bathed in gear oil, used engine oil, chassis grease etc. The body has dented and scratched but everything still works fine. There is no battery rattle and the light doesn't flicker even after rough treatment. The light has been dropped 6+ feet directly onto the switch more than once resulting in the light being switched on/off but the function is still fine. Tailcap rubber has gotten a bit soft but is holding up. The glass is holding up well with no signs of wear. Sadly the o-ring on the tailcap failed from being pinched after a few battery changes. I'll have to dig around and find one at work that isn't quite so soft and possibly a little more chemical resistant. The high setting is indeed bright (verging on too bright for use within 5 feet), but the flashlight gets very hot after 10-15 minutes or so and eventually de-rates to the dim setting. It also absolutely DEVOURS batteries on high. Max life on high is around 1.5 hours using Engergizer Industrial AAAs. I try and use the dim setting whenever possible, but it's simply TOO dim to really cut it in many situations. I really wish that there was either an intermediate setting or the dim setting was bumped up a little to bridge the gap between "blazing sun" and "candle light". I give the light 4 stars for being basically bulletproof even though it is let down by battery life and output settings. Overall the mechanical construction is superior to the Streamlight Stylus Pro (The Streamlight eventually failed due to a drop and wore faster, but to be fair the Stylus is lighter, less bulky and cheaper), but for my use I preferred the battery life and light output of the Streamlight (slightly less lumens but SIGNIFICANTLY longer life).

Pelican 1920 LED Flashlight
Ordered this for my better half, to this day he still uses it at work, he says it's very handy and the batteries stay long even in cold temperatures. Would definitely recommend it.
