Love This Easy To Use Canon PowerShot & Its MANY Features
This is my husband's camera but I've been using it quite a bit lately since my other two very old digital cameras have finally gone to that vast electronics graveyard. I like this better than either of my former cameras, anyway, and my husband is great about sharing. (One was a Nikon and one was actually a different Canon -- the PowerShot A1100IS which lasted for YEARS and did a great job under heavy use but was thicker and heavier and required AA batteries.) First of all, this is smaller and weighs less. Second, it doesn't require batteries because it has a battery pack. I bought him an extra one so that one battery can always be charged, ready to insert. The battery pack lasts a LONG time, especially if one doesn't use a flash, easily a whole day's shooting. Third -- Battery pack and SDHD card are extremely easy to insert and remove. And fourth (but should be number one on my list) -- I love the high quality of photos (16 megapixels!) and videos and the 12x zoom. Fifth -- all of these are easy to use. On "AUTO" this camera IS easy to use! But there are so many features included -- it's up to the user -- use it simply, or delve into any of the many features and use this high-performance camera to its full potential! I have not yet tried wifi for sharing or remote shooting. But we have used the timer -- just set the camera on a mini tripod, pose and a few seconds later we've got a group shot. I haven't tried "creative shot mode" which outputs 5 filter variations.

HQ User Friendly Camera
Very User friendly camera for beginners. Purchased for $199. It is a 16mp camera with 1080p video. It has a good sensor and lens, so it produces high quality images. The lens and sensor matter more than the megapixel count. I have an old KODAK easyshare C653 6.1mp camera that takes better pictures than a Samsung PL120 14.2mp for that reason. For video, I prefer using the 720p setting so the battery lasts longer, and it is still very good quality. It has Wi-Fi, so you can transfer your videos and pictures to your pc that way, or directly to Facebook if you have an internet connection. I prefer to just put the memory card in the pc myself and copy & paste to the destination I want. The default auto settings seem to work very well, but there are other settings and features once you get more familiar with the camera. It has the usual delay mode for setting the camera down to tae group pictures with the photographer. The timer can be custom set up to a 30 second delay if you want, and up to 10 pictures can be taken before setting it again. Or you can use a feature that when it detects a smile, or wink, it will take a picture. There is less than 1 second delay after taking a picture until the still image is off the screen and you can tae another picture. The 12x optical zoom works great and can make high quality 8x10 photos. The 24x digital zoom is good too and works good with 5x7, but I haven't tried it for 8x10 yet. The 48x digital zoom is ok, but does lose some quality. Video: It can use the 12x optical zoom for video, and unlike some other cameras, with the Canon Powershot ELPH 340 HS, you CAN zoom in and out while recording video. The microphone is located in the front of the camera too, so your fingers don't cover it.

Simple camera for my travel needs
I bought this camera as a compact travel camera for trips instead of using my iPhone. I have a Nikon DSLR for serious pictures, but when I travel and planning on going places where I know a large format camera will be a burden, I needed something smaller. This is a very simple camera - mostly a point and shoot which is great for a quick shot to capture the memory. I've only had the camera for a short period, but overall, I've been happy with it. I've only used the Smart Auto mode and tried a couple of videos. The Smart Auto mode tries to detect the scene that you are picturing and adjusts the function for the shot. For the most part, it seems to know the difference between a portrait and still life as well as detects movement well. There are other features like Smart Shutter, which detects facial movements and automatically tries to take the best shot, and Program, which adjusts aperture and shutter speed for the best lighting conditions are ones I will be trying soon. I have connected the phone to Wi-Fi in order to upload photos to my iPhone 5s. It's an interesting feature, but I'm not sure how often I'll use it. Seems like you have to set up the camera to connect to the local wi-fi which is fine at home, but on the road, I could see this becoming cumbersome. I thought that there would be a way for it to become it's own AP so that your phone could find it like any other wireless device, but I couldn't figure out how to do that. I would have preferred a bluetooth connection to my phone in order to quickly transfer shots & upload them to Instagram or Facebook. The key buttons on the camera are as follows: Top: On/Off, zoom and shutter, and mode switch: auto, creative shot, and hybrid auto Back: LCD screen, movie, playback, exposure/Wi-Fi, function, macro, flash, display, menu, and mobile device connect Side: AV out, HDMI jack, DC coupler cable Bottom: tripod socket, memory card/battery Pros: Compact - 3.93 x 2.27 x 0.88 in. / 99.7 x 57.6 x 22.4mm (from Canon website) Simple Point & Shoot Good video & audio quality Lots of Shooting Mode features to try Good battery life Decent zoom Cons: Does not come with a memory card. Not big con - but it seems like this category of camera would come with a 8GB card Delay in shot. I noticed when taking action photos, I had to anticipate the shot more that I usually would do to the delay Changing between Shooting Modes requires going into the Function menu instead of a physical wheel Attached picture info: Shot in Auto mode Dimensions: 4608 × 3456 Focal Length: 4.5 Aperture: 3.6 Shutter Speed: 1/1000 ISO: 160

Very Satisfied Buyer
The Elph 340 replaces a 10 year-old Konica Minolta. The advances in technology are apparent - more megapixels, much faster start-up time, much larger and brighter display and it's easy to use. I first used the camera this week on a trip without reading any instructions. I set it to what I suppose is "Auto", found the wide angle and telephoto switch and clicked away. Now that I'm home I downloaded the 163 page manual, which I may get around to reading, but for the moment, "Point and Click" does me just fine. Yes, Canon is really pushing their wireless photo transfer, but I'm of the old school and to transfer the pictures to my computer I used a USB cable with a Mini Plug at one end and it worked fine except my Mac software version is not high enough so I downloaded to a PC running Windows 7, copied the pictures on a memory stick and transferred them to my Mac. A card reader is coming from Amazon, so I will be able to transfer directly to the Mac. Review updated. I subsequently purchased a Lexar Multi-Card USB Reader to replace an older reader that wouldn't accept the HD SCI card used in the Canon. This allows me to download the files from the Canon directly into my Mac. Much quicker than the former card reader and it works perfectly.

Very nice compact camera with Canon quality
I have had several other Canon point and shoot cameras and purchased this camera for my wife. She enjoys having a camera that fits easily in her purse, is easy to uses, has a decent telephoto capacity, and takes decent pictures. The 340 meets all of these requirements. It is also lighter than some of their other small cameras. I do wish that Canon had an optical view finder but they have all disappeared except on a very inexpensive camera. I also suggest purchasing a second battery. As another reviewer stated, this camera does seem to drain it's battery even when not in use. Follow up: Yes the battery drains in 3-4 week of sitting idle. Canon's solution is to remove the battery. A sure way to have your battery door break much sooner than it should. I suggested to Canon that they have an active power drain in the camera, probably the time and date. Canon stated that they take all their batteries out on a daily basis. I don't believe them. I have had several Canons, this is the only model that drains the battery when in short term storage. You want to be able to garb and shoot (the whole point of a "point and shoot", not install a battery and then shoot. I still like the picture quality and the size and weight but must reduce the rating from 4-3 stars by the above problem.

The camera is easy to use and setting up the WiFi network feature ...
My husband loves the one I bought for him, so I got one for my father! The camera is easy to use and setting up the WiFi network feature is pretty simple for one device. (Adding a second target device is a little trickier to do and use effectively. I recommend sticking with one WiFi target if possible.) The image quality has been great so far... It is a point and shoot, not SLR. We've had good results in daylight, low light, indoors and out. We haven't played much with the special settings, though. The zoom is unbelievable! My camera is only a couple of years old and is a higher end Canon Elph, but this one's zoom blows mine away! Unless you're planning to blow photos up to posters, even max zoom gives good enough image quality to crop in for great distance results. (We've only tried this in daylight, though. I doubt that the flash is capable of matching the distance!) This camera body is a bit bigger than mine, OK for a pocket, but not in your skinny jeans. One downside is that it doesn't include a memory card in the box. Buy a 32gb card and you're set! (I think 32gb is the camera max, but that's plenty of room even on the finest settings.)

Teriffic Small High Zoom Camera
This camera is great. The size is so very small for a camera with 12X-zoom. It easily fits in a shirt pocket of the pockets of my cargo pants. The quality of the pictures is very good. I read several reviews on this camera and they were all good. Canon is a brand I trust. The image stabilization appears to work very well. 12X zoom may not be extremely long, however I found out with a lesser zoom camera it is very easy to get blurred pictures at zoom lengths of only 5X if care is not taken when pressing the shutter. Blurred pictures have not been a problem with this camera. I have a larger camera with more zoom but wanted something besides an iPhone that was convenient to carry and had at least 10X zoom. The ELPH with 12X is just what I was looking for. I had looked seriously when it was almost $200. When it dropped to $130, I immediately ordered it on Amazon. A local big box store had it advertised for the same price, but did not get any to sell. If you want a very small camera with substantial zoom this may be the one for you.

Very Pleased with this Camera
We've only had it for a week, but so far so good. ~ So small and easy to use right away. Love the color. ~ Takes sharp photos outside and inside with flash. Fast focus, good quality. User friendly, just power up and start snapping... ~ Standing on the porch at the top 16 stairs down to the garden where I used the zoom to take a close up a photo of some coleus. It came out really well. ~ Using the closeup feature works great. ~ I love the wall plug in provided for the battery! No cord, no big, heavy adapter, just pop the battery in a small plastic box and plug in the wall. I may come back later, when I've used the camera more, but, as I said, so far, so good....Very happy with this purchase.

Canon Powershot
I purchased this for my wife. She was asking for a camera that she could use. The camera I had was a Canon DSL which she thought was too big and complicated. After using this for a short time she is taking excellent pictures and video. It's so easy to use. She likes the ability on using the Cannon app that transfers all the picture to her iPhone. Great camera!

great little camera
i like this camera alot, its the first of 3 powershot cameras i have that shoots 1080p...not like a dslr but for vlog style videos it does the trick...but let me tell you, this battery drains alot while shooting videos, i used up 8.26gb on the card before it died...theres 3rd party batteries i purchased for $26.99 from big mikes, it comes with 2 batteries, 1 charger and a few other car and european stuff but you will need it if u dont want to run low on battery...all my higher end cameras have extra batteries...the only drawback is the door on the bottom of the camera, it seems too loose and can break so dont torture it
