Seeing Red
Most movies that try to be funny and scary end up neither. Jordan Peele's Us manages to be both... and much more. The movie imagines America as a topside Bourgie World of vacation homes, boats, and fancy cars and a Downside World, the latter being the result of an experiment in which everyone in America was cloned, and their doubles were kept in tunnels and used to control -- via their shared souls -- their other halves in Bourgie World. These soul-tethered clones are shadow people in a shadow world who spend their lives going through the motions of those topside. They mime riding in boats and enjoying other creature comforts and luxurious pleasures while those to whom they are tethered in Bourgie World are doing the real thing. At some point, "the tethered" were forgotten (probably when neoliberalism came along), but they continued to exist, stupidly going through the meaningless motions of their doppelgangers in Bourgie World. The propelling event of the movie is a childhood encounter in the liminal space between the two worlds. Eventually, this leads to an uprising of "the tethered," who venture into the topside to untether themselves. Their rebellion is violent and terrifying, but because the Bourgie Folk and the Downside folk share their souls, they share the same values and vision, too. In both worlds the reverence for 'fitness' is accompanied by its evil twin, cruelty; the glib shallowness is accompanied by unquestioning and unthinking conformity; the drive to acquisition and achievement is accompanied by the belief that God smiles on those who do well; and the lack of space for those who see differently is dogged by a burn-it-down destructiveness. As a result, while the uprising is led by a character called Red, she is not some kind of Marxist champion of the abused and manipulated. Instead, as a changeling at the head of a horde of rebelling but clueless Bourgie-World-tethered clones, her leadership yields what will always mirror a childish, co-opted left; that is to say, Red's banner is more like what the color red has come to symbolize in American politics today, right-wing populism. In the end, the "tethered" follow Red into Bourgie World and apparently accomplish what they were inspired and determined to do. They kill their doubles, and then -- in what might be the funniest, scariest final scene in a movie ever -- the rebelling shadow people re-enact Hands Across America. In 1981, Margaret Thatcher said, "Economics are [our] method: the object is to change the soul;" in 2013, Adolph Reed, Jr. wrote, "Simply put, [Thatcher] and her element have won." In 2019, director Jordan Peele gave us, for our consideration, Us, a hilarious, frightening cautionary tale of the truth -- and consequences -- of the feckless 21st century American left.

A Masterful and Haunting Thriller
Jordan Peele's "Us" is a film that defies categorization, blending elements of horror, suspense, and social commentary into a potent and unforgettable mix. And with the release of the 4K Blu-ray version, the film's striking visuals and immersive sound design are showcased to their fullest potential. The 4K transfer is nothing short of stunning, with every detail of the film's moody cinematography and eerie production design rendered in razor-sharp clarity. From the sun-kissed Santa Cruz boardwalk to the shadowy halls of the film's central location, every scene is a visual feast. But it's the audio that really takes the experience to another level. The film's haunting score and unnerving sound effects are delivered with incredible precision and depth, immersing the viewer in the film's unsettling atmosphere. Every creak, every whisper, and every scream is given weight and impact, creating a truly spine-chilling audio experience. But the technical prowess of the 4K Blu-ray is only part of the story. "Us" is a film that demands repeated viewings, as every frame is packed with hidden clues and symbolic meaning. The film's cast, led by Lupita Nyong'o in a tour-de-force dual role, delivers nuanced and layered performances that reward close attention. "Us" is a film that will stick with you long after the credits roll, and the 4K Blu-ray version is the definitive way to experience it. Whether you're a horror fan, a cinephile, or simply looking for a gripping and thought-provoking cinematic experience, "Us" on 4K Blu-ray is not to be missed. Highly recommended.

Extremely Awesome Film
There's next to nothing for me to complain about with this movie. Stellar performances from all of the actors and actresses, great choice of music, very unique story, super exciting, several funny moments, and an ending that I did not see coming. A must-see film.

Wonderfully Fascinating
I actually thought this movie was a stronger, more rich horror movie than Get Out was. Both are comments on society. Us is fairly unique, which immediately gets my attention. A family is attacked by their doppelgangers (or "tethered"), who turn out to be an entire underground society, the product of some weird, abandoned expeiment. I really dug the moody, classic score. Surprisingly, this movie has a real sense of humor, which I found a little odd, considering the overall sense of dread. But it works. There's a great twist at the end, which will make you want to see it all over again with this new knowledge. In the extras, director/writer Jordan Peele says "I don't see myself moving far away from horror anytime soon," which is refreshing. Usually, directors want to move on, or stretch out to greener pastures from starting out in horror. He seems to be a real student of the genre, and a fan of the classics (also interesting as he's known more as a comedian). I absolutely hate reboots, but I am looking forward to his rendition/sequel (er, co-rendition/sequel) of Candyman (classic horror flick, seemingly custom made for Peele's philosophies).

Excelente produto.
