What a beautiful sun shade! It's a darker medium grey with a sparkle to it - absolutely gorgeous. Most other grey shades I saw for sale are a light grey and this one matches our outdoor space perfectly. We use atop our pergola for added shade. This particular shade nearly blocks out all sun. I am shocked at how well it works. We replaced a tan colored one from last year with this one and the difference in the light filtering is drastic. Our old one still let quite a bit of light through. We purchased a kit to hang it at a big box hardware store and it was easy to install. We also had a heck of a time finding a 14' x 14' grey shade that wasnt twice the price of this one. This is definitely a great value.

Editing my review from 2012 to update in 2016 on the product. We have 3 different ones of these and the rectangle ones are still working great for us but the triangle one developed a rip last year in a storm. We always take them down over the winter but this was a summer storm with 60mph gusts. I suggested this product to my boyfriend after he started using pop-ups outside our sliding glass doors and I was tired of banging my head into them when walking outside. He wanted to use the pop-ups for a while until he was able to purchase the expensive awnings that can move out and roll up against the house. After one of the pop-ups blew off the deck (despite screwing it down) and landed on the solar panels and internet satellite receiver (scaring us that one or the other may have been damaged) he finally agreed to let me purchase these. Now he is taking credit for finding such an awesome item that is so affordable!!! (Ha!) The shade itself is more of a brown color than pictured, and the ropes they provide for tying the corners make it difficult to tighten the sail to the appropriate tension. I would suggest WAITING until you have the item before screwing anything into your walls or placing poles for it, because it does stretch a little, and you may want to attach the sail differently. We ended up getting tensioners/tighteners to attach to each corner (they were about an additional 6" each) so that we could get the item very taunt. One side is attached to our home, just above the doors and windows, and the other side we got 2x2" 1/8" thick square steel for posts. The posts are overkill, we easily could have used aluminum or a smaller/thiner post. Over all we love the sail, the house isn't as bright, and seems cooler. Plus it was a total of $125 including post and attachment supplies vs $2000+ for the awning that he wanted.

Okay, I'm updating this review after 2 1/2 years, and 3 1/2 years since purchasing the original sun shade...and believe it or not, I'm still using the original sun shade (see old comment below), and it still works like a charm under my pergola and still looks great! This is probably the best 50 bucks I've ever spent! I do take it down in the winter and then spray it with a bleach activator, rinsing it and letting it dry before winter storage, but other than that, nothing else. Great product! Excellent product ! I've purchased two now. For the first one I was 'forced' to buy from this company simply because I needed a sun shade that was exactly 8' x 8'--no one else had one this size. But, I've had the first one now for about a year and this is probably the best purchase I've ever made. Color and durability haven't changed at all since I bought it. I purchased a second just to store in case I need it because sometimes product lines aren't produced forever; if this one is ever discontinued, I know the one I have in storage will be just as good of a quality as the first and will enjoy it for years to come. I purchased 3 of these sail shades for my home. I used two 12' squares for the side of my house where I usually have my guests sit for bbq's, outdoor entertaining and such. And one 20'x 18' over our pool. So far, so good! I had people over for Easter and we recieved good compliments on how they looked , they were even considering to buy some for their own homes. Here in Southern California we get quite a bit of sun so I know these babies are going to be put to the test. We've had a couple of days in the 80's and it was more than comfortable to be outside enjoying life under the shades :) I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quick and affordable way to make your outdoor space cooler and add a little splash of style. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the shades came with some rope pieces that my husband and I felt were not enough to do the job correctly. So, depending on the size and style that you choose, you will have to probably make additional investment in proper tools, rope etc. But it shouldn't be too much and the end result is worth it!

First off shipping-- the sail arrived 4 days ahead of schedule, even with a holiday to slow down mail. Doesn't get any better. This is the second sail we have purchased from this seller(South Mission). We enjoy the ease of use and the shade it provides so decided to replace. I went searching through past orders to repurchase and was surprised to find the original purchase was 6 years ago! The reason the first sail was being replaced was because the metal ring tore through the fabric strap that holds it on. The ring is how the sail is connected to the hardware that goes to the post. It gets year-round use and has been taken down for a few days on two occasions for hurricanes winds. Mold is common on roofs around here, so the 1st time it was down, it was cleaned with a house/siding cleaner. That was 2 years ago. The winds caused many roofs to be replaced and there's been a lot less mold in the area in general and no recurrence on the sail. The only other maintenance has been to periodically tighten it due to stretching, which is a normal. I don't know the recommended cleaning method of these sails. What we used was a house/sliding solution for mold/mildew and it likely called for mixing with bleach. The bleach may have added to the wear and the strap tearing. With 6 years of use and killing the mold, we consider that a fair trade off. The Sandy Beach color is great. Provides shade, doesn't hold heat. Good air flow through and around. It shades the yard and side of the house that gets most of the sun. There's a noticeable difference in the heat reduction. Before the sail, the door (a dark color) and doorknob would heat up to the point it was almost untouchable. That is no longer a problem. Setting the post was the biggest part of installation, after that putting it up or taking down is very quick and easy. Originally, we were thinking of using a very large umbrella to shade that part of the yard and house, so glad we did the sail instead. It has been worry free and very tolerant of the weather. Highly recommend!

We put this sail up over our trek deck. It made our screened porch feel a lot cooler and the radiant heat from the deck was much less. The sail is heavy and it took two of us to put it up. You will need 4x4 post in cement to secure the sail. It take a few days to get it stretched and tightened down. It still has a sag in the middle since there is no way to anchor it from the sides. We have a single story house. Im sure it would be much easier on a 2 story. Overall we are happy with the shade and I would definitely recommend.

Very pleased with this shade sail. We opted for the terracotta rust and are pleased with the color; Though it is a little lighter shade than it appears to be on Amazon and their website photos. Install was a breeze. We picked up the needed hardware, in stainless steel, at Home Depot for about $8. This is indeed a right angle triangle; Another we purchased on Amazon that claimed to also be a right angle triangle in fact wasn't. Keep in mind, all sides slightly bow in toward the middle. Both 10' sides more so that the longer side. This actual enhances the overall look but for those that are looking for straight sides when taut, look elsewhere. One final thought, after about 5 days of baking in the sun, pretty much all the wrinkles from being folded in the package are now gone. This is a feat that again, a cheaper sail we bought here on Amazon couldn't accomplish either.

Bought it to cover a 21x13 patio and it's about 2ft short on all sides. Was willing to accept the 6in margin I measured for.

I recently purchased this sail, and it is perfect for what I needed! I had a gazebo before this, and this is much easier to remove for winter than the canvas cover of the gazebo. The sail was easy to install and looks great. Still bright, but shaded and we have had some hot days lately! I have been telling and showing everyone and recommend it.

Good material but too expensive for its size.
