Holy moly, is this Turkish pepper wonderful. Used it in a rub for lamb with dried lime and sumac. I feel like this is a moment of heaven on earth - this pepper is rich, tasty, and earthy. It is not spicy, but it is delicious. It is notably different from any pepper I've used yet familiar enough to use in your favorite dishes calling for pepper. Run, don't walk, and buy Urfa Biber chile now.

This just may be the best spice you have never heard of!! You can use with so many things.

I love red pepper, and I can tolerate the taste of it in a crunchy layer on most anything. The older I get though, the less it loves me back. Enter Urfa. This and Aleppo Chili give me all the flavor without the kick to the stomach later. Aleppo is a “cleaner” red pepper flavor, whereas Urfa is a sweet, Smokey taste bud tantalizer with a little kick. We use this product for our Octo peppers, roasted red peppers, and onions salted and we add Bieber pepper. Yummy

Despite the elegant description, there is nothing on the label confirming these peppers are from Urfa or even Turkey for that matter. Seeds from Urfa grown elsewhere produce Isot peppers but not really Urfa Biber. It is the location, climate, and terroir where the pepper is grown, dried, and processed that makes it authentic. I returned unopened so giving a neutral rating. Spiceology should be more transparent.

This is a great addition to your pantry. It has a really nice smokey flavor and not over-poweringly spicy; imagine a cross between smoked paprika and cayenne. It's not finely ground, around the size of red chili flakes, and it adds a really nice pigment to the dish when cooked with. The amount you get will last a long time.

I needed this to make Shakshuka and I wasn't disappointed!
