Rocket, the beloved dog from the New York Times bestselling picture books How Rocket Learned to Read and Rocket Writes a Story, is back in a Step 1 leveled reader. Rocket is ready to find new words for his word tree with his teacher, the little yellow bird. He finds a leaf, a hat, and a star . . . but when he finds a red boot, he doesnโt want to let go. What will make Rocket drop it? With predictable patterns, simple words, lots of repetition, and bright, colorful illustrations, this Rocket book will charm young readersโand they can read it all by themselves! Step 1 Readers feature big type and easy words. Rhymes and rhythmic text paired with picture clues help children decode the story. For children who know the alphabet and are eager to begin reading. Review: Love Rocket Books - I love the Rocket series of books. The first book, How Rocket Learns to Read, is wonderful and fun book about Rocket and a little yellow bird who decides to be his teacher. Initially Rocket isn't interested so his teacher starts reading a story aloud about a dog who lost his bone. When the story leads to discovering a mound of dirt, Rocket wonders if it was the bone! The story starts from there and tells about Rocket's growing interest in words. The series continues with stories about Rocket's interest in words, reading and writing. Drop It, Rocket! is one of a number Step into Reading books that follow. I worked into the series backward. I'm a Reading Buddy to a 1st grader and Drop It, Rocket! is one book she chose to read. She enjoyed reading it so much that I checked further into the Rocket series on desertcart. How Rocket Learns to Read appears to be the first in the series and one you would read to a preschooler. I bought it to check it out. I loved it so much, I bought all the Rocket books and, after reading them all myself, mailed the entire set to her. Review: He loved Rocket so much and was very interested in the ... - This book got my reluctant reader 6 year old finally interested in reading. He loved Rocket so much and was very interested in the story and has read it over and over. We ordered another Rocket book for him, now he thinks reading is fun and looks forward to practicing reading. The Step Into Reading Books advance very quickly, my son was 1/3 through Phonics Pathways before he could read most Step Into Reading Level 1 readers, and these readers aren't strictly phonetic. For a new reader who is learning CVC words, I would recommend Bob Books or the Tug the Pup boxed set.

Great for beginner readers
My 6 year old is learning to read and she loves reading this book. It is definitely an early beginner book with simple words and nothing tricky. She memorized it after 2 times reading it so we need a new book:)

Drop It Rocket a enjoyable first reader
Bought this book for my 6 year old niece who just started kindergarten. Drop it Rocket is a step 1 reader for preschool/kindergarten children. This is another Tad Hills fun learn to read book for kids. Rocket picks up several items and Little yellow bird tells Rocket to drop it until the red boot which he will not drop. The illustrations are colorful and he adds many words for the child to read into the pictures especially the trees. Each page only has a small phrase making it not too overwhelming for the child to read. Rocket and his adventures with Little yellow bird is an enjoyable read as well as easy first reader for children.

Best intro to reading book that I've found
This is such a cute little book, I love the illustrations and story. My daughter is 4 and not quite reading yet but this book is perfect for her, as I can read the story, but there are also individual words written on little cards that Rocket places on his 'word tree' that she can sound out on her own. Its a great intro to reading as she gets an opportunity to practice without being overwhelmed by having to read the entire story. Great find and a prefect book for a preschooler.
