Is it good for swimming at the beach without getting sunburn?

Yes. My boyfriend wears it all the time at the beach and never gets sunburn. A little background, he has fare skin so he burns easily and with this shirt on he does not.

Is this the same material that fishing jersey is made from?

I'm not sure which fishing jersey you're talking about. This is made from a very comfortable moisture wicking fabric. My son wears these every day even in Florida and he stays cool but oddly in the winter they work really good too!

Is this the real deal?

Not sure what you mean by the real deal. But this is a genuine Columbia shirt. And it really works well. In the head the wicking keeps the sweat in check and it works well on the SPF side too. Very happy with the purchase, I have 3 of these all from Amazon.
