What kind of ink does this pad use?

I'm not sure exactly what kind of ink the pad uses, but if you are concerned with cleaning it off of hands afterward, then I can tell you that a little soap and water completely cleans your hands. This is the best pad i have ever used for clean up. I used to have to apply the orange gritty cleaner that they use in car garages in order to get most of the ink off the hands. This pad requires only a little hand soap and water. I'm not sure I helped with your answer, but I have not had any problems with the fingerprints coming back as inadequate because of the ink.

Does it need ink or does it come with it

it's ready to use for around 5,000 fingerprints. After that it needs re-ink. No extra ink bottle comes with it.
