Great for traveling
I use these for traveling because they fold up so nice and short (easy to pack) and they are super lightweight. I also like the srew-in rubber tip option. The disadvantage is fixed length (hence, four start rating), so you need to get it right. I think many people get too long of poles. I am 5" 8" and I use the 110 cm length; my wife is 5' 4" and uses the 100 cm length. I both cases, this is 10 cm shorter than length charts suggest, but I know a few super hikers who also go to the short side. For around home, I use carbon fiber adjustable poles, and do have them a few centimeters longer (about 115 cm for me; 105 cm for my wife).

Super light and sturdy
Used for 2 backpack trips now with about 40lb pack. Definitely notice a relief on my legs and back when I use them. I'm not convinced that I'm faster with them but the added stability comes in handy. The light weight is incredible. They almost feel weightless. I've only used the rubber tips so far. The poles have a definite sound they make as you plant them but you get used to it. I think they perform really well when compared to other poles, they are very light and sturdy. The jury is still out for me on whether i'll always use them but unbeatable for what they are designed for.

These BD Ultra Distance trekking poles (2014) had what I wanted & needed for travel...lightweight carbon fiber at 12 oz/pair & collapsed length of 13 in. Unfortunately, the 100 cm (39 in.) usable length was a little too short for me so I had to return them. The 110 cm (43 in.) size that I needed was not available at the sale price so I ended up ordering the aluminum BD Distance Z poles (2015) for $99.95 from Backcountry Edge.

Yes, I would highly recommend these poles. 5.5 oz each
Light weight. I hardly even know I am carrying them. I am 5'10" and got the 120cm and they fit perfectly. I do have some user specific suggestions though. The tips that come on the poles are dainty, cute and suck. Get the big rubber tips to put on over them. PLEASE READ ON! Take the stock tips off the poles and superglue them into the big rubber tips and let them dry, because the big rubber tips don't stay very well and you will lose them on the trail somewhere. The metal ice tips that come with the set, tape those together and put them in a safe place in your backpack. That way, if you are on the trail and come across icy conditions, you will have them with you and you can just unscrew the big rubber tips with the dainty sucky tips superglued in them and use the ice tips. I love the poles. Super light. Each pole weighs 155g or 5.5 oz with the big rubber tip superglued on. 11 oz of support goes a LONG way on the trail.

recommended but correct length is critical
Very light supportive poles I used in 170 mile desert foot race. I hadnt used poles before but it didn't take long to get used to them. I ordered 110 poles but got 120 so they were too long and I got tendinitis both wrists until I changed my technique to allow for the length. These were popular ones used and were strong enough for rough terrain, rocks, sand and long hours of use but were light enough to keep in the pack until you needed them. SIze is critical. Not sure id have finished race without them

Hiked Salkantay trail in April 2014. Not sure I would be able do without them. They certainly made the trail easier, light weight, friendly to handle. At one rest stop, I left them leaning against wall for, let's say 10 minutes? And they "walked" away. It was 1/2 way thru and I was devastated. My Peruian guide JJ took off running. I ran after him without any hope. 15 minutes later I bumped into JJ on the trial, wringing his dripping t-shirt. JJ held up my sticks, "don't make me do it again!" I was over joyed. Gave JJ a huge hug. I had to make him accept my reward $$. Turned out another guide saw my sticks, decided he wanted them himself! JJ learned this after quick exchange of communication with another local guy. He had no time explain to me but took off running after this other guide...this is the story of my beloved "walking" sticks.

he feels good that I always have them to pull out depending ...
I'm not one to write reviews, so take that for what it may be worth, but both my husband and I are enthused about our new trekking poles. He's excited because they are so light and compact that I carry them in my backpack as standard gear; he feels good that I always have them to pull out depending on the condition of the terrain (We're Alaskans.) I'm excited about the effect on my rotator cuff injury; five days in the Grand Canyon-rim to rim, down, down, down, and up, up, up-and they not only gave me confidence on the slippery smooth sand-covered rock but virtually mended my shoulder injury. They are not a pole for every occasion as they are not adjustable, but for a go-to pole for every day hiking-rocky beaches, slippery boardwalks, trails and open alpine-you can't beat 'em. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Amazing poles and travel well
I love these poles. Recently took them abroad for some backcountry hiking. They worked very well. These poles fold up like tent poles. The mechanism is very clever. The parts that holds them together is a strong plastic without stretch. It locks into place via a snap mechanism at the grip. It means that the poles fold into three pieces next to each other. While it takes up more space horizontally, it saves vertical bag space than seen with traditional adjustable poles. This trade makes them easier to pack. The carbon fiber shaft really reduces vibration. On our trip, our friends had leki aluminum poles. They had much more vibration, AND they were heavier. For reference to help with sizing, I am ~6'3"; and I bought the 130cm. They were just about the right size -- maybe 1 cm too tall

easy to use
Lightweight, easy to use, durable. I've used them on a couple of rocky and steep mountain trail runs and they held up great. When packed away in my hydration pack I barely know they are there.
