Amgate 4 PCS Rubber Violin Practice Mute Set, Included 2 PCS Claw Style & 2 PCS Round Tourte Style, Black

The large practice mutes are great for my students and I always buy them these to practice at home. It dampens the sound quite a bit which gives them confidence to practice so not many can hear them. The only reason I’m giving a 4 star review is because the smaller ones that were included do work well, but they are just SUPER hard to put on. My student and I had to use so much force to hook it onto the bridge that the bridge fell off. I had ti put her bridge back on a couple times now. Thankfully I’m a private violin teacher and I’m confident to do fix the bridge, but other people may not be. But when it’s finally hooked on there it does soften the sound!

These mutes are effective and are easy to install.

New to mutes, I didn't know what to expect in terms of sound reduction. After using them a few times, I found the ones that span the bridge the most effective. The little round tourques are barely different from normal decibel, so i don't use them. The larger ones take the decibels down a notch, but it's still rather loud from what i expected. It doesn't shift the resonance too much, though some notes come out sounding 'strained' compared to without the mute. It's handy for practicing, especially if you have a headache while playing the full sound. I had no issues with staining - though I don't leave the mute on when I'm not playing. Installation was super easy and not at all stiff

I can play comfortably in my apartment now …easy set up .FYI remove it before you put your violin in the case .Your string will pop

Daughter was pleasantly impressed that sound didn’t change it was just quieter. Still loud but tolerable.

Good price but the quality is not..

Whilst these mutes do work, in that they dampen the sound of the violin for practice purposes, they do have one significant drawback. I don’t know what chemicals they are made of, but they have a most unpleasant smell. I tried washing them in hot detergent but the smell persisted. Having this directly under my nose whilst practising was intolerable. They went straight to the garbage bin. I cannot recommend them.

I have a 4/4 violin and this mute didn’t fit, and didnt work.
