What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror. Review: A Whimsical Twist on the Superhero Saga! - Brightburn takes the classic superhero origin story and flips it on its head, offering a delightfully twisted and heart-pounding ride. If you’re looking for a film that combines a touch of the whimsical with a healthy dose of “what if,” then this is your perfect pick! That’s Brightburn in a nutshell—a fresh, imaginative take on the superhero genre that’s both thrilling and unexpectedly fun. The film follows Brandon Breyer, played with an eerie intensity by Jackson A. Dunn. From his unsettlingly calm demeanor to his dramatic transformation, Dunn brings a captivating depth to the role. The juxtaposition of an innocent child’s face with his superhuman abilities creates a uniquely chilling yet fascinating dynamic. What makes Brightburn truly special is its blend of classic superhero elements with a dose of horror. It’s like if Superman had a mischievous streak and decided to wreak a bit of havoc. The special effects and visual storytelling are top-notch, giving the film a stylish, polished look that enhances the otherworldly experience. And let’s not forget the whimsical side of things! There’s a certain glee in watching a film that dares to take a well-trodden genre and inject it with such creative flair. The good and the bad
Ok. IF you do not apply SUPERMAN to your view of this movie, then it is FAR easier to enjoy it for what it is. Granted, plagiarizing the most famous Superhero in existence is nothing new, but you HAVE to make adjustments to allow for a NEW continuity A. Mom and Dad ARE the Kents, per their lifestyle, etc. The parallel, to me, would mean that either the writer did not factor in that a HARSH upbringing would cultivate a more REALIZBLE, and relatable scenario to produce an evil Super...OR he implies that the ship controls the kid. He had emotions BEFORE his "emergence" and none after, sdie from saddness prior to what happen3ed in the final barn scene...and that could have been overacting and not a script issue as it means he liked no one but his mom :) B. YOU CANNOT go tit for tat. By doing that, like they did with the parents, you create a narrative view that ALREADY exists. When you cross over that border, ANYTHING will be nit picked. An example, how does he go from Average, nerdy kid, to godly, evil, super, in the space of 4 days ? Again, either the spaceship computer,Ai, whatever, controls him, OR.....good writing did not exist, and only plagiarism with quirky ideas added. The path should have taken a time frame that seemed more filled with grief and frustration. As it was written, and acted, it plays it as if they kid is evil and realizes it.....the spaceship makes him thus, or he "just decided" It just lacked a LOT of body to be a "what if he had gone down the other road" type of story NoW ! If you can step back and rewatch it as a horror movie, without imposing Superman as the mental narrative, except evil, then the movie is not too bad. I know, it is hard to not think of pink elephants, but it can be done. The 1st tiem I watched it, in theaters, I had some MONSTEROUS expectations. Then I realized how lacking the content was and the PREVIEW literally gave the entire movie away, I was bummed. Told people it was "Meh". The second time I watched the movie. I did not make it a Superman parallel, nor a superhero movie. The second time I watched the movie I made it an Alien Horror story involving a kid who decides that humans are best when dead, as it is put forth, and not a reverse story A lot of people stick with a view and do not care to step outside of their view. I try to see it a few times to shake off the 1st viewing opinion. It helps me understand a movie or TV show better. I mean, my wife was teasing me yesterday as I have Watched Umbrella Acadamy season 1 3 times now and The Boys twice. if you get a negative feeling about a movie, or it causes you to question the expense, see it again when it comes out on video. Cheaper and you can try to view it in a different manner. If your view is 100% in the OTHER direction, then you;ve tried to hard and need to see it a 3rd time :) The movie is a SOLID 3, or a 5.5 on IMDB to me. The 1st tiem I saw it, it would have been a 2 here and a 3 there :)

Good movie that needs its sequel
This is fantastically dark and just chock full of 'Nope' moments. The actors worked well together and the story itself was entertaining.

Worth watching
Don't let the bad reviews stop you from making up your own mind. This is a worthwhile glimpse into a superboy-prime type myth. Coming in at around 1:25 (plus 5 more minutes of credits), this film isn't perfect by any means. It takes shortcuts and leaves many stones unturned. Not really scary (or disgusting) enough for hard-core horror fans, and not really awe-inspiring enough for superhero fanboys. But it was worth the admission price. Don't expect full-blown horror from this film. It's comparatively mild for that genre, though not completely devoid of horrific scenes. Taken for what it is, a dark-clark/evil superboy story, it works well enough to entertain for the short space of time it takes up. I've seen far, far worse junk from Hollywood recently. While it didn't set my hair on fire, it also didn't make me regret sitting through it. Bottom line - it's worth watching.
