Taylor n' Drop Digital Timer with Volume Settings, One Size, White

My usual inexpensive kitchen timer is now too high-pitched and too soft for me to hear it clearly in other rooms. The Splash 'n' Drop has solved that problem. Its three volume settings and its loud, clear tone are just what I was looking for. It's also lower-pitched than a standard kitchen timer and beeps until it's stopped, so it can't be missed or ignored. (In case this matters, the pulsating tone sounds a bit like a home fire alarm.) It has a clock setting and also a back-light button that illuminates the dial for 4 seconds in case the numbers seems dark. But I find its half-inch high numbers very readable. The control button are easy to understand and navigate. The 2 small magnets on its back hold it securely on my refrigerator but it also has a sturdy "kick stand" if you want to use it on a counter top. One minor inconvenience: you need a small Phillips-head screwdriver to undo the four screws that open the battery compartment.) The first Splash 'n' Drop I received had a defective back-light. I sent it back and a had a perfectly working replacement in 2 days with no hassle.

Needed a timer. Bought this one. Works great 👍

Magnet is weak, screws for battery compartment are minuscule, operation is confusing and not at all user friendly, and to top it off it fell from the range hood to the stove top and now the timer doesn’t work. It has a clock, but basically every stove has a clock so why is that even necessary. You have to push two buttons (hr and min) at the exact same time to reset the timer (!). Pushing the volume button also switches the timer to the clock. The thing is supposedly rugged, but all it has is a rubber strap around the edge, which did nothing to protect it when it fell off the range hood BECAUSE THE MAGNETS ARE RIDICULOUSLY WEAK. The product is weak, operation is weak, and for $25 it was a total ripoff. Tylor used to be a quality product, but I WILL NEVER BUY A TAYLOR PRODUCT AGAIN.

Just what I needed. My old one was not sold in stores anymore--maybe I got that as a gift. It had been falling apart, so I needed another one.

Seems well made without much concern for aesthetics. You know-- typical Taylor brand approach to engineering: make it work, get it made in China, enjoy profit. Their products are merely OK, seldom exceptional.I'm going to give them a pass on waterproof. Didn't fully test. There's a silicone band around the outside of the unit guarding the seam between front and back case that I guess constitutes the waterproof, or resistant element. Not really pretty, even if effective.I was hoping to replace a CDN Large Digit Timer that seems a bit sensitive to moisture. Since I'm using the timer for timing coffee and espresso extractions, it happens, occasionally, that the timer gets a little moisture on it. The CDN will stop functioning and I have to remove the battery and cover for a few hours to dry it before it will again function. It also sometimes starts at 1 minute counting down instead of 1 minute counting up when the "GO" button is pressed. Maybe I've just got a bad one.Anyway, though, the Taylor buttons are small, the screen is not backlit unless you hold down a button, and the numbers are relatively small. So... it works, but you can't really operate it with one hand. I think for baking or other cooking functions, it'd be adequate when you don't really need to read the screen during your activity, but only want to set the time and be alerted when the time's up. The alarm's reasonably loud, so it'd be OK for that type of function. For coffee enthusiasts, I'd say steer clear of this one.Personally, I think I'm going to order another CDN Large Digit Timer and see if I have better luck. I'll keep the Taylor around for other kitchen duties, I guess, since it's hardly worth it to send it back. That said, I would if I could.Good luck with your projects. Hope this helps you decide.UPDATE: I added one star. The timer is good functionally except for the fact that the backlight goes out after 4 seconds, which is irritating. I guess that saves batteries, but...Since I had this around, I started to use it more for brewing coffee. Overall it does work well for this purpose. As mentioned, visibility isn't terrific with smallish digits, but timer set, activate, re-set, and overall functionality is good. So, yes, this timer is quite usable, albeit with two hands as the buttons are small. I think I would still like to order a newer CDN to see if it might be better than the one I have, which is super-sensitive to water. If it gets at all wet-- and I mean a drop or two splashes on the surface-- you have to take the battery out and let it dry out for a couple hours before it will work properly again.

I was concerned about the size of this when I purchased it, but it's perfect. I use it to time cold showers and have it mounted above and to the right of the shower head. It gets splashed and wet, but not soaked. In the dim light of the shower it's a little difficult to read, but it has a button which back lights it for a few seconds.The only con was the magnet on the back of it which I didn't need, or use anyway. It wasn't strong enough to hold your grandmother's handkerchief much less this thing. I used heavy duty double sided tape from Home Depot to attach it to the tile. The kind used for equipment, or pictures. It's been working fine for 3 months...Love it!I know, cold showers??? Don't knock it unless you've tried it. I don't mean 20 seconds after a 15 minute hot shower. I mean at least 5 to 10 minutes full on cold. Drink all the coffee, Red Bull, and Monster you want, but it doesn't come close to a long cold shower.

Ordered one for my mom & it worked okay for a while, but then the battery died & the tiny screwed on battery cover wouldn’t unscrew - the heads of the screws were malformed and/or were super tight, preventing removal. But my mom liked it while it worked for a few months, so she asked for another one thinking the bad screws were a fluke. They were not. The replacement timer lasted less than two months, and its screws were just as malformed and tight.If they could fix the battery panel, it’d be a gem of a timer. But…not worth the $$ for less than 6 months of battery life.
