Castle Art Supplies - Set of 72 colored pencils with soft core for artists, professionals and adult colorists, sturdy zipper case for easy carrying

I have many different brands of coloured pencils inc. faber castell polys. water colours, inktense, artezas. I had been looking at these castle art coloured pencils for a little while. I came across these 72 pencils in a zip up case and bought them via prime. These pencils are excellent for the money. The black zip closure case is great, very well made and has an area of elastication in the middle of the case where you can fit a couple more pencils or pens. I have secured two small posca pens, a good white pencil, blender pencil and an eraser pencil into this case, which ive found very handy. All 72 pencils fit inside perfectly into their individual elasticated holders where they are very easy to remove and return after use. You can see the identifying number of each pencil very clearly. The pencils dont have names and personally thats fine by me, i dont need names on my pencils. As long as i can identify them and these are easily id'd from their numbers. They are wax pencils and are very soft, you can layer them so well. They blend pretty well too. For any novice colour pencil users if you find your work becomming a bit streaky with these pencils just give a burnishing with a light colour or smooth over with a blender pencil and the area will become very smoothed out and the streaks will be gone. They came sharpened nicely which was good. For detailed areas i gave them a couple of turns in my manual sharpener and was pleased that they sharpened into a very fine point. Once i had a superfine point on these castleart pencils they laid the colour down with no crumbling. There are loads of reviews for these same pencils that are in the tin. The odd poor review I believe must be from people who dont know how to use coloured pencils as i have had no problems with them so i wouldnt let the odd review put you off. . I received them yesterday. I started the fairy picture yesterday when i got them and have finished this evenning and i think they have worked great, they did everything a good coloured wax pencil should do. There are some lovely colours included, many of the colours are great for skin tones. The only con I can say about these pencils is thet the white is not very good, however it cab be used for burnishing or blending but its not opaque enough for using as white. This is quite common with coloured pencils where often the white is not that great, so I'm not too fussed about that. Ive added the finished picture which i did with these pencils. They really are great performers. Im very pleased with this purchase and think they are good value for money.. I'd say to anyone try them as Im sure you will be super satisfied with this kit. Update sept 2019. A few more pictures completed using these pencils, I have found that these pencils do have alot of wax bloom, however for the price with the case they are still a very worthwile purchase.

I’m no artist, I just enjoy colouring, and these pencils are perfect for the job, soft but not too soft, good bright colours , plenty of shades, I ummed and arred,but honestly, for the money I’m impressed. Oh, and the carry case is a very handy bonus. Would buy again.

Fantastic for the price!! Super creamy. Vibrant colours. Brilliant blending. Amazing assortment of colours too. Ignore the bad reviews, they almost put me off buying them. My husband is super fussy and he was over the moon with them.

A lovely case full of wonderful pencils. I am new to colouring and find them just right for the job. So many colours and a very good price too. Arrived very quickly.

Thoroughly recommended pencils although, retrospectively, I probably would have gone for the larger set of pencils that Castle Arts do. I assumed that 72 pencils would be enough but it seems that when you're using colouring materials, there isn't really any limit to the number of colours you might like (I say like as you probably don't actually need them). In any event, subsequently, I supplemented them with a set of pastel coloured pencils and a cheap set from a chain store. The case the pencils came in is very useful, although I would hesitate to say (as in the features listed above) that it was good for travelling - to be honest, it is a little on the bulky side for travelling but there is room to add other pencils you might subsequently buy which is very handy. On the whole these pencils have a good depth of colour and while some of them are a little softer and blend a little easier than others none of them are problematical in that respect. As others have said, some of the colours don't really match with the colours shown on the ends of the pencils and I find it helps to keep a piece of scrap paper to check the colours as you work but I would probably do that in any event, even if the ends did match the colours of the pencils. I was very impressed by the attitude of the company in keeping me informed as the order progressed. It seems that these people really do care about their customers and a lifetime guarantee is something you don't often come across these days. I would definitely recommend the company and would buy these pencils again.

The pencils look lovely and the case well made. This was for a gift so I don’t know how they perform but I imagine they’ll be fine.

Lots of lovely colours, good coverage of colour and soft application. Very good value for your money.

Este estuche me sorprendió por la calidad de los lápices. Los 72 colores tienen un pigmento muy bonito, se mezclan fácilmente y permiten hacer degradados suaves. La mina es resistente, no se rompe al afilar y se desliza con suavidad en el papel. Además, el estuche con cremallera es muy práctico y elegante, perfecto para llevarlos a cualquier parte. Los recomiendo muchísimo para colorear libros, ilustraciones o simplemente disfrutar dibujando.

I purchased 2 of these colored pencil sets for my kids in preparation for our LONG travel days last Christmas multiple flights across the country and back). At the time, my kids were ages 4 and 7. Both directions of travel were over 12 hour travel days. I was hoping that by purchasing each child individual travel sets, they would easily be able to keep themselves entertained and not lose pencils. WOW! These sets did NOT disappoint. They are absolutely AMAZING, and we will be lifelong customers! I foresee purchasing several more sets in the future (for my kids again and as gifts to ANY artist). These sets are by FAR the BEST colored pencils I have ever seen...and they instantly made both young children into incredible artists! There are SO MANY great features about them that I don't even know where to begin. Let me first say that we experienced extremely lengthy flight delays, so sadly we were stuck in airports for 5-6 hours at a time. It was Christmas time, so it was VERY cramped, and the kids often didn't have much space. However, these sets and coloring books were heaven sent. Both kids just quietly colored for hours on end. Strangers kept remarking how impressive they were. They both had iPads as well, but instead for most of the travel days, they just pulled out their coloring sets and did that instead. I'm talking in the airport on the ground, on the airplanes themselves, waiting at baggage claims, in the rental car...EVERYWHERE! They are also not the type of kids who easily just sit and color. As much as I can give credit to the pencils for their behavior...I'm telling you that my husband and I were dumbfounded at how much they loved these pencils so much! Here are some of the really amazing features of this product: 1. The zippered case is one of the many awesome features. Since my kids are only 4 and 7, one big problem we have with any coloring sets is losing pieces, not being able to open or close the case by themselves, keeping everything together, etc. Both kids were in charge of their own cases and had no problem smoothly opening, closing, and tracking everything all by themselves. 2. Each pencil is numbered!! This seems like a very simple concept, but it is REALLY incredible. I have a few OCD tendencies and I am a designer, so I really like keeping things in order and in place. The fact that the colored set is numbered and you know exactly how they are intended to be ordered is pretty cool. Especially with one kid at an age where she's still learning to count to 100 and visually identify the numbers on her own, this was pretty cool and made her feel important. It's a great way to stay organized. 3. Not to be a broken record about the amazing case, but EACH and EVERY pencil has it's own elastic holder slot. So it's very easy to see if there is a color missing. It's also great for kids this age to help not lose pencils (which is pretty impossible to do at this age). However, it makes if VERY simple when I say...only remove one pencil at a time, and make sure to put it back in the place that it belongs before grabbing your next color. I know...a little crazy to do for kids who want to grab a million colors at once...but it really did help us from losing any during this 10 day trip where we stayed at 5 different places throughout. We were ALWAYS moving on the go and they never lost any pencils. The other thing this was great for is when we WERE missing a pencil or two, because they're numbered and in order, we knew what color was missing to look for and able to find them. 4. The quality of the pencils themselves are phenomenal. They are wax-based pencils that sharpen very crisp and easily. The quality of color is unbeat. The versatility of type of paper surfaces they can color on is impressive. The vibrancy of the colors is also very good. Even many months later, my kids still use their colored pencil sets every single day and spends hours on end watching "How To" videos on YouTube and can draw MUCH better than me (or any other adult I know). FYI "Art for Kids Hub" YouTube channel is mindblowing. If your kid is an aspiring artist, have them watch a few step-by-step videos on here and you'll be blown away at how amazing they'll be able to draw. All-in-all, I just have to say that this was a really tremendous find. I was just looking for something to help us on one trip, but now I've found a lifetime product that we'll love forever! Thanks for making such a great product!
