Improved the cleaning and circulation of my pool

I live in the southwest, and recently had my backyard inground pool totally re-plasteredand made "like a new pool" again.But when the pool company put in new return jet covers, they were the "eyeball" type thatare so common these days. The "eyeballs" did not perform well, IMO.For many years, I enjoyed strong circular water motion in the pool (sometimes called "vortex" motion), which maximizes the effectiveness of the skimmer, and mixes the water continuously. That was because the old return jets were the "slotted" type (considered more "old school") that propels the water close to the side of the pool, and gives the water a strong circular push around the perimeter of the pool.The "eyeball"-type does not do this, because it cannot get a good angle along the side of the pool.IMO, the "eyeballs" are fine for spas, and maybe round pools, but not so good for inground rectangular pools like mine.JMO, butIf you have a more-or-less rectangular inground pool, don't get the "eyeball"-type covers for the return jets---- get the SIDE SLOT-type, like this model.The pool tech put them in very easily, and they work like a dream.Sometimes, "old school" is just better.

I have an above ground pool with a 1.5HP pump and a single return line. These were too restrictive for my pump/pool setup and caused too much back pressure in my pump. If I had several returns, i could see how these would be valuable and would work for those applications. These are great quality and appear very durable. Although these did not work for my application, I wanted to add this return in case it was helpful to others.

We use these heads in our underground pool to create increased pressure and flow so that the water circulates better towards the skimmer basket. I recommend these to my friends with older pools because we all seem to not have enough skimmers or jet heads. I changed every single one of my heads with these slotted ones because it breaks the surface tension, you see the water flowing very fast toward the skimmer or clearing out the water near the stairs which always has some bugs or dirt.
