Co-Line Lockable 2-Way Livestock Gate Latch

We needed a two-way latch for the 16 foot gate we just installed on a new goat pasture. We choose the Co-Line and I'm very pleased we did. This gate latch is very sturdy and well made. Everything fits together perfectly and operates smoothly, regardless of which way the gate swings. It was a breeze to install...but you will need lag bolts if you have a wooden gate post. The kit includes carriage bolts to attach the gate side to the gate. It also includes adapters if you're installing this on smaller diameter tubing. My goats really like to rub on the gate and I'm not worried at all about this latch popping open. I had a little too much space between my gate post and the gate but fixed that with a 2x4 board. The latch back plate fit perfectly on it. I'll admit I didn't read the directions for install as it just seemed pretty intuitive and straightforward. Excellent product, made in the USA, and well worth the price. Very refreshing features in this day and age.

These latches are really great, providing a positive lock with only a gentle push of the gate. The vertical bars that hold the latch bar in place are easy to lift up with one hand, and fall quickly into place when released. You do have to have the correct amount of space between gate and post to fit this latch (see manufacturer's recs). It does stick out a bit so if used on a narrow gateway it might take up a lot of space; on a 8 or 10-foot long stock gate it seems much less bulky. I used the supplied adapters inside the gate side of the latch, to make sure I could tighten it well to prevent it from slipping; I also spanned it over a crosspiece as suggested to eliminate rotating. I most recently installed one on a round post and it worked surprisingly well; the holes at top and bottom of the receiver side are close enough together that they had little air-space to span before hitting the post and the receiver cinched down very tightly to the post. I am very impressed with these latches and intend to replace as much of my existing gate hardware as possible; I think these will tolerate seasonal movement of the posts and still work properly. I cannot speak to these latches being horse-proof, as my horse does not mess with gate hardware, but I think they would be very difficult for a horse to open. I highly recommend these gate latches.

Installed this today. Very well made, and super easy to use. Much better than the old chain loop I had been using. I like how you can open/close from either side, and swing the gate either way. Make sure you have enough gap between fence post & gate, or you will have to cut a notch in the post. It took me an hour to cut a notch, and 15 minutes to install. Install is easy. You do need four lag screws (not provided) but I'll guess most of us using this sort of product have some lag screws laying around. I am *super* irritated that "Prime Delivery" disappeared in one week. I bought one last week, free Prime, to see how it worked. Now I'm ready to order nine more (have ten horse gates), and they want $12 shipping. Each. Sorry, I'll find somewhere else to order them. What the heck Amazon?!?

Proper installed clearance may be an issue; I suggest putting in one post and the gate first, then install the latch and second post so you have enough clearance. I wasn't careful once, and had to trim away part of the post with a chainsaw for it to fit! I cannot think of anything critical to say -- the latch is very well built; mechanically very simple, and the gate rests on the latch (a positive thing). I greatly prefer these two way latches over the one way latches -- I have installed the 2 way latch on gates that I will only open one way because I like them better than the one-way latches. The price is right, too!! No lag bolts included, but just about any four large screws will hold the latch in place, unless you're corralling a feisty bull or something.

Product works perfectly. Have to have a decent size gap between the gate and the gate post where this mounts. Horrible shipping. Took 2 weeks for failed shipping only to have replacement take almost another 2 weeks.

heavy duty, not for smaller gates or posts. we cut out a flat section on the post, easy to mount. opens so easy, all i do is push on the 16' gate, and it swings open and shut. will see how it does when it snows, not sure if it wll freeze, but the latches are large enough should be simple to loosen.

Bought this latch for the entry gate to our property. Very happy with this unit. Feels heavy (quality made) and was easy to install (less than 10 minutes from package open). It comes with two "filler" pieces that help it adapt to fit a range of gate tube sizes, which were not needed in my case. Works very well, feels very secure. I especially like the ability to padlock it (which I didn't even realize until it came in) for when we are out of town. The only small aggravation was that it does not include the 4 lag bolts you need to bolt the locking mechanism to the wood fence post, which I picked up at the local hardware store. Otherwise great product though.
