Happy Happy
After doing a lot of research I settled on this TV. I got the 60 inch model because it fits into my entertainment center. Like most people, I read a lot of reviews here and on places like CNet, Rtings, AVSForum, etc. Yes, there are pros/cons with this set but after looking at about six other contenders they all had their issues as well. So, I finally just bit the bullet based mostly on the brand and the features. I considered the JU7500 but I couldn't see any reason why I would want to spend the extra money on a curved screen. This set replaced a two year old Sony XBR (55 inch) that I'm moving to a bedroom. The Sony is replacing a seven year old Panasonic Plasma (42 inches) that will become a game monitor in another bedroom. It's sort of like musical chairs with TV sets. Unboxing Seemed to go OK, the nice guys from Pilot delivered the TV, unboxed it, attached the stand, and turned it on to make sure it worked. They were happy to move it to my entertainment center but I had some rewiring to do so I did that myself with some help. No, it's not all that heavy but it's very awkward to lift and move. It really is a two person job. Setup Wow, has this ever gotten easier over the years. I plugged the cable from my AVR into the OneConnect box and the supplied OneConnect cable from the box to the TV. I have all of my peripherals connected to my AVR so the only connection to the TV is from the AVR to one of the HDMI ports via the OneConnect box. Side note on the box - some people are complaining about it but I think it's a great idea. I have the box hidden behind the stand but it's easily accessible if I want to plug something in - like a USB device; it sure beats trying to connect something to the back of the TV. After I had everything connected I powered on the TV and followed the prompts. I always hold my breath when something new tries to connect to my WiFi but there weren't any hiccups. By the way, you're going to be forced to use the rather odd remote that comes with this TV. I got fond of it after I adjusted to it - moving the cursor around by pointing rather than using some clunky up/down/right/left arrow (which you can still do) was much easier. Of course, after I answered everything I wasn't getting a signal and all I had was snow. After fiddling with my AVR and changing the source input on the Samsung I got a crystal clear cable signal. And, it was bright enough to be seen from outer space. So, I dove into the settings because I figured the default was "dynamic" which is what you're usually seeing on the demo models. But, nope - it was set to "standard". Brightness aside (see below) I immediately noticed a much sharper picture. My AVR has an upscale feature like most do, but it only upscales sources other than HDMI so it had no affect on my sometimes not so great cable signal. But, the Samsung upscales everything that comes into it so even if I'm sending a 1080 signal from cable to the TV it's going to upscale it to 4K and it shows. Settings I haven't made too many changes but I did get some recommended picture settings from rtings.com and one day I'll play around with them. I did find that the first evening the picture faded significantly. It was still crisp but it dimmed. I seemed to remember something about an automatic dimmer and that was the problem. If you run into this problem and find it as annoying as I did, it's called Eco-Sensor. At first I turned it off but that made the picture too bright in a dark room so I just changed the minimum brightness level and that seems to be working OK. You have complete access to more settings that you've ever dreamed about. The E-manual (it shows up on your TV or you can look at it online or download it to your PC) explains everything so most of us can understand it. The user interface for accessing apps, games, streaming services, etc is outstanding. Press one button on the remote and everything is shown on the bottom of the screen. Move the pointer (or use the arrows) to what you want and select it. It's that easy. Obviously the first time you go somewhere you're going to be asked to sign-in but after that the entire process is simple and fast. I got into Netflix faster than I get in on my tablet. Speaking of my tablet (a Samsung Galaxy Tab S), I was playing around and I mirrored the screen to the TV by simply selecting the icon on my tablet and confirming the connection on the TV. The video wasn't as crisp as HD cable but it was readable. I also connected my desktop PC (a Windows 7 system) to the TV. I was easily able to navigate through my folders and start up a slideshow of pictures. I also used the Samsung's web browser without any problems. No, it's not as full featured as something like Chrome but handy for looking something up. Because I have a Harmony remote, cable, and everything is connected to my AVR I don't use the Samsung remote very much. But, I do use it when I'm streaming music or video directly to the TV, e.g., NetFlix. Like I said before, the pointer function is pretty easy to use for selecting things. You'll also notice that there aren't any numbers on the remote. But, press Menu/123 and they show up on the TV screen. That's cute but I'm not sure I'd want to use that all the time to do things like change the TV channel. A universal remote (like the Harmony) would solve this problem but it would be nice if Samsung also included the old-style remote like they do with some of their higher end models. Overall - I'm happy with my decision. Attractive TV that has more features than I'll ever use (like 3-D). It was easy to set-up, easy to use, and a great picture.

Awesome Picture; Easy Setup
Great TV and easy to set up. Took me less than 10 minutes to get everything hooked up and running. The TV itself has no HDMI ports. There is a "mini-connector" box that has a proprietary plug. Your HDMI cables from your DVR, DVD and Gaming Console plug into the mini-connector box. I only have a DVR and DVD plugged in. This box connects to the TV. The ports are labeled so it's easy to hook up. I searched and sweated over purchasing this TV. There was a lot of discussion concerning the picture quality and how to fine-tune the default settings in order to get high-quality action sequences (sports and movies). I made one minor change... I set both Picture and Sound to "Movie" mode. The picture is AWESOME! The "smart" remote is the only weak spot. It's interesting that the TV and its remote recognize my Directv DVR but, you cannot control the DVR with it. I can turn the DVR on, off, change channels and adjust the sound. I am unable to control any of the other Directv features (Guide, Info, List... etc.). As a consequence, I have set the "smart" remote aside and continue to use the Directv universal remote. The TV has built-in Wi-Fi which allows the TV to directly connect to Netflix. I happen to have a Samsung phone and I can easily connect my phone to the TV as well... very cool. All-in-all, very impressed and very happy.

Never worked
UPDATED REVIEW: This is an updated review based upon a replacement TV that was sent to us; the original review is still shown below. Amazon was great and sent us a replacement TV without recharging us, although since it shipped freight it took almost two additional weeks to get. Most importantly, the replacement TV actually turned on! It was pretty easy to setup and the picture looks great (color, motion, etc.). The sound is decent using the built-in speakers, although it is noticeably louder when sitting on the sides of the TV versus in front of the TV but that's not a big deal. The apps (e.g. Netflix and Amazon) are intuitive and easy to use. I would prefer built-in connections actually part of the TV versus the SmartHub but again not a big deal. Overall I am happy with the TV and happy with Amazon's customer service, but would have preferred to pay a little less, and I am not happy with the courier or the frustrations associated with the lemon TV we originally received. I give the new (functioning) TV a solid 4 stars; however, I am going to keep the review in the 1 star category because I want other consumers to know about the lemon I originally received. ORIGINAL REVIEW: We purchased this television (Samsung 60" model JU 7100) after much research and viewing it on display in a few stores. It is not the newest model, but we liked how it looked (color and motion) better than the newer SUHD equivalents. This series also came highly recommended from several different salespersons at the different stores. We finally ordered it through Amazon and had it delivered a day earlier than expected, woo hoo! That was the end of our excitement. Here's why: 1. TV: Fail. Fizzle. Flop. The red power light turns on and off and that is the extent of the TV's functions. There is no sound or picture, and this is what happened straight out of the box. I called Samsung to troubleshoot which was worthless. I explained I just had the TV delivered and was able to turn the red power light on and off using both the remote control and the button on the back of the TV but was not able to see a picture or hear any sound. After asking me if the cord was plugged into the wall and the TV (um yes, the red power light is working) and if I put batteries in the remote (yes, I see a red light turn on and off) and if I used the button on the back of the TV (yessssss red lightttt) they told me they would need to send a technician to see if it was a warranty issue. I said this TV is about 10 minutes fresh out of the box, it's either a lemon or got damaged during delivery, and they said I needed to deal with Amazon (a third-party technician actually called me on behalf of Samsung later that day to schedule an appointment, but once I explained the circumstances he said in summary "they just need to send you a new TV!"). I called Amazon and they said no problem they would send a replacement, bad news it will take about a week and a half. I'm really glad Amazon stands by their products and has great customer service, but this TV was not cheap and should be working right now! I should be enjoying some Friday night movies instead of typing an annoyed review! 2. Delivery (Pilot): Oh where to start... The delivery window was ridiculous as they initially said between 9am-9pm. After speaking with the delivery company I said I was not available at 11:30am due to a doctor's appointment and requested a call when they were on their way, which they said they could accommodate. On the day of delivery I got a call at exactly 11:30am that they were at my house to deliver the TV. When I said I had just walked into a doctor's appointment and asked if they could wait about 30 minutes they said they would have to call their office. A few minutes later the office called me and said the delivery person could not wait and had in fact already left, and would not be able redeliver until the following week. After some back and forth, they agreed to have the delivery person wait (come back?) to my house if I could get there in ten minutes. Unfortunately I canceled my appointment and raced to my house, upon arrival I saw my TV sitting on my covered porch (even though it was raining) with one delivery person waiting in his truck. Please note, this is a pretty large TV and it says in no less than three places on the bill of lading that it is a two-person job and that two-people will be sent, there is even a two person sticker on the TV box! But nope, they sent one person. One person who did not know how to put the stand together, one person who did not remove all the large packaging that came with the TV, one person who did not bother turning on the TV to confirm power before he left despite that being part of Amazon's white glove service. He said that he doesn't bother with the power because if there is an issue it is Amazon's problem and not his since he is just the delivery person. Wish I had insisted because he could have taken this oversized and overpriced paper weight right back where it came from! 3. Install: Obviously we can't comment on the actual installation since it hasn't happened yet, but we were very happy with the Amazon Home Services customer service in regards to initial contact, scheduling, and pricing. One out three not bad? I will update this review when/if we get a replacement TV and include what happens with delivery and installation.

Really great TV so far
First, I'd like to say don't pay attention to any review that isn't a verified purchase. More than likely they're reviewing an incorrect TV or just bad mouthing Samsung. I was checking daily for this TV to show up on Amazon. I did so because I was holding out for the new Samsung TV line to come out. I bought this set on 3/6/15, the day it came out. There was immediately a review shortly thereafter from someone which I knew it was complete BS. That review claimed that the TV arrived with dust on it and spelled "welcome" incorrectly and all these problems of clouding blah blah blah. It wasn't true in the least. I'm telling ya, don't consider any review that isn't a verified purchase. This TV is really great so far. I got this specific model because it was literally the only new Samsung TV that wasn't curved. I wasn't sold on curved after doing a ton of reviewing about it and checking it out in the store. Purchased on 3/6 and it got here about 3/10.. The packing was really well. You'll need basic tools to put the cable detangler/stand on. I was able to do it myself. Unlike the other reviews, I had no problem connecting to Wifi. I did start wireless at first no problems, but now have it connected to an Apple Airport Extreme that I use as an accesspoint to hardwire both my TV and my PS4(for the purpose of faster download/upload speed of course). My TV did update immediately upon purchase and I found it updating within the first couple of days often (probably due to new release, getting bugs out) The video is great. I haven't tested 4k via netflix or the sort yet, but have been playing games on the PS4 and streaming video from my Apple Macbook Pro over to the Panasonic. What I wasn't a fan of at first, but now like is the One Connect Mini. The TV is otherwise naked as far as connecting ports without it(no hdmi on the TV directly itself). I have come to like it because one of the problems I've had in my other TVs is that the HDMI cable had a hard time staying connected into the port when it was horizontally hanging from the middle/upper corner of the TV. The cable would eventually just get loose, droop downward giving it a weak connection. The one connect mini fixes that, but it still seems odd the TV doesn't have at least ONE HDMI port directly on it, in case ya know, something happens to the One Connect Mini. This is why it doesn't get 5 stars. You shouldn't need box that is like an accessory for a TV. Also I noticed that the One Connect Mini isn't universal among all points. Like I can't plug my PS4 or computer into one of the ports at one side etc. I am about to pick up a Roku 3 or Apple TV to stream video over wirelessly. The remote is pretty cool and accessing the menu options etc is a piece of cake. The remote is motion sensitive and is your primary way of guiding through the TV(though the power button the back will allow you to toggle through as well). I have this in my room and doesn't experience any clouding. Granted in the sun, I can see reflections such as blinds etc, but overall I really am happy with the purchase.

This TV is absolutely stunning.
This TV is absolutely stunning- I could not ask for more. With Samsung being the undisputed market leader in many electronics categories, they've yet again not failed to amaze me with this offering. Some of the awesomeness in more depth: Set-up is a breeze- Upon initial startup, the TV configured itself perfectly, with all aspects working perfectly, including all smart features and integration with my existing "Anynet" ready receiver, Blu-ray player and Verizon Fios cable box. It actually automatically took control of all 3 devices named via their updated universal remote (see below) during set-up, leaving the days of 4+ remote control TV viewing in the past. The fact it worked right out of the box, soundly puts to bed rumors posted in older reviews that the TV requires a firmware update or other improvements to function as advertised. While it did update itself once connected to the wireless router, it did so automatically, without issue, and as part of the system initializing. Unrivalled Picture- The 4K picture is unreal, and the automatically upscaled HD content is a close second as far as beauty and true image reproduction (note that 4K content is currently offered only via streaming services such as Amazon or Netflix- NO major U.S.A.cable provider offers 4K content to my knowledge at present, so be prepared for slimmer 4K offerings, provided by smart TV outlets, rather than your TV provider)... While you'd expect this hopefully from a TV of this caliber, I'm stunned in the difference between the picture on this TV, and its older, 55 inch, 8000 series, 1080p Samsung Smart TV (which was an amazing TV in its own right, and would still be my primary TV if not for the great cyber Monday deal on Amazon for this updated, 3D, 4K model). No "Soap Opera" picture- many people complain that modern, HD, LED TV's produce a washed-out picture, making for viewing qualities similar to 1980-90's television soaps. This is just a fact with most new TV's, but CAN BE EASILY REMEDIED VIA YOUR PICTURE SETTINGS. There are entire websites devoted to LED TV's picture settings, and if you're a technophile, I suggest you visit any number of model-specific pages for your TV. However, if you are less than enthusiastic about finding, then tinkering with settings endlessly, I recommend putting the picture mode on "Dynamic", then in short, raising brightness, sharpness, clarity and like settings to the look that best fits your environment, while keeping such options as blur reduction, and other advanced settings to auto when able, or standard. The good thing is that the TV can also do this to a degree by itself, and you can always revert back to the default settings should you not like what you've done. The remote: The remote is VASTLY improved over previous models, using a motion sensitive pointer, much like a Nintendo Wii controller (there is still a directional pad on the remote for those who don't enjoy this feature). I set my sensitivity down a bit at first to get used to it, but now everyone here is a pro. As mentioned, the initial TV set-up let's you utilize this remote controller to control almost any other A/V device... It's not 100%, as because the remote is very minimalist in design, some complex functions on other devices are a bit of a headache with no direct button to push, however, I can say it's about 80% effective, and has integrated itself completely with my Verizon Fios cable box. Samsung Extra: This is a newer feature, which I believe is being back-updated on older TV's, but this TV, when integrated with your cable box, provides an experience similar to Amazon Video's "X-ray" feature, providing the viewer with added content on the program/movie on screen. It gives a brief synopsis, along with actor info and the program's live Twitter feed. Very easy to get lost in this feature, and a cool bonus to your favorite show or movie... Quad core processor: Due to home office needs, our internet connection is very fast, with vast bandwidth capabilities both up and downstream. This made for great streaming, but on my older TV, I still had to get past an initial streaming buffer, then wait about 20-30 seconds for the picture to clear. On the same fast internet connection, because this TV has a very fast, quad core processor, I no longer buffer streamed content at all. To the contrary, I press play, and boom- perfect picture quality from the start, that plays instantly (even on 4K/ultra HD content)! The upgraded processor also makes loading apps, and using interactive features much faster, and generally more responsive. UHD Dimming/advanced picture options: I happen to be a bit of a picture nut, but regardless, with the UHD Dimming feature and other advanced picture options, this TV produces the most vibrant colors and truest black/white I've ever seen. Even if not a picture nut, I'd recommend enabling this feature, and playing a bit with any others that you understand, as it makes for even better viewing. Audio: I use a Yamaha 5.1 surround sound system via a receiver. Like the older model, you can set audio output via the audio return in the HDMI cable connection to be in receiver mode, and then allow for different sound decoding methods to work best with your set-up. While you may need to research the best settings, the result in my own experience has been mind blowing surround sound, which given the bitstream output option, has produced unreal audio results. 3-D: What can I say besides it's awesome? Just like Imax style 3D, and can be tailored thru a host of settings to be just as you want it. Will even convert 2D. Just beware- the deal I got did not include the required 3D glasses (which were backordered), and there is very limited 3D content available, but I'd expect more and more to come, so worth the investment for what content I've seen so far, but also hopefully for much more in the future. Lastly, the input connections: Samsung smartly abandoned plugging your HDMI cable(s) or USB connection(s) right into the TV. Instead they provide a hub, that has all the HD connection points you'd need, but then connects to the TV via a single cord. This is WONDERFUL for wall mounted TV's, because you no longer have to either carefully pre-connect all inputs before mounting, then either bundle the cords, or suffer the eye-sore of having them hang loose. Even on its stand, this makes life much easier, allowing you to quickly insert/remove HDMI inputs or USB drives without attacking the back of your TV (the stand even provides a built in cable guide to keep things neat). My only real complaint surrounds Amazon's delivery of the TV, which came late, and with no mention of the free enhanced delivery services offered such as set-up, and takeaway of packing materials. This was a small nightmare, but I lay that at the feet of Amazon and/or their courier. Be sure to know if you get scheduled delivery, that you likely have enhanced delivery, meaning they'll unpack your TV, ensure it turns on to the initial set-up screen, and will remove boxes/Styrofoam. There are so many other great features of this TV, but I'll let you find out for yourself hopefully. A great buy, and highly recommended.

Owned it since January 2016, not that impressed.
In early January 2016 I started researching many 4K, 3D TV's by mid January I decided to switch from my go to choice brand of SONY. I chose the Samsung UN55JU7100 55_Iinch model. Now, it does have a gorgeous picture and we enjoy the ability to occasionally watch a 3D movie, unfortunately 4K content is so new it will be a long long time before it becomes readily available and that's about the only good thing I can say about it. My TV has so many glitches to list them all and every day or so it seems another one will pop up. First off, the so called "Smart Remote" wasn't such a smart idea for Samsung, the darned remote is so small it's hard to handle and gets lost easily, it's to small for my hands (and I don't have large hands) You have to point it at the TV and time is lost in changing channels unless you can point it at the exact spot needed to switch channels or make other needed changes and you can't have two smart remotes working at the same time. I ended up buying two Samsung standard remote controls (model# AA59-00652A) so my spouse and I could both have the ability to change channels and make other changes to the TV, without having to throw the smart remote back and forth across the room. At least twice a day the screen will just go black and I have to take my standard remote control, click on "SOURCE" and choose the function you want (TV, DVD,DVR etc.) once that is done the TV will start functioning again. The sound of the TV is ok but it cuts out for a second or two and it happens often, I thought it was my ears at first because I do have a hearing loss. However my spouse has perfect hearing and she says "no honey it's the stupid, SMART TV" boy that made me feel better about my hearing....LOL With that said, I use closed captioning all the time but on this television it's hit and miss if you can get closed captioning to work and even when it is working it will drop many sentences then pick up again. And at times the closed captioning will freeze on the screen and the only way to get those pesky words off the screen is to kill all power to the television, not just shut if off and on again but literally kill all power to the television for about thirty seconds, then turn it all back on again. Now, according to Samsung closed captioning is provided by the individual networks so if it's not working it's because the shows aren't being cast with closed captioning available, however our 32" television located in the kitchen has closed captioning on every channel and it works perfectly on all of the major network channels. I find it really strange a cheap television can get closed captioning and this fifteen hundred dollar top of the line Samsung can't. I could go on but I think you get the idea that I'm not to impressed with Samsung, I hope it will keep working for at least a few years and I will replace it with a Sony and move this one to the basement where we watch television while working out, that happens about once every three months. But it does have a Gorgeous Picture

So far loving it
So Far I'm really happy, but I've only just started to play with the features. The TV was relatively easy to set up with 8 screws required to install the stand. It's a touch difficult to do alone because if you're installing it while the TV is on the floor the angle of the stand requires you to lift the TV before screwing it in. With my wife there it was fine, but pro tip: Install it while the TV is on an ottoman like they show in the pictures. It'll make life easier. The connections to my existing components were easy through the included OneConnect Mini Box and I had no real problem with wire lengths though I can see the gripes about the length of the power cord. An extra foot would have made it just a little easier to plug in to the power strip behind the TV. The initial set up was really easy. The TV walks you through the online set up and the software update occurred automatically. Setting up the remote to control your other components (cable box and DVD player) was a breeze. The picture on this TV is phenomenal. I played with the settings based on some professional reviews I saw online, but I didn't see a ton of difference versus the default settings. Sports look unreal on this set and HD content is phenomenal. I tried a 4k movie on it, but didn't see a huge difference between 1080p. I'll have to compare them A/B and see how they look. I haven't used the 3d because the TV didn't come with glasses (It should have for the price) The smart TV function is a breeze to use. My previous TV was not "Smart" so we had streaming Netflix and Amazon through the DVD player. That was easy enough that my young son could do it, but this is even easier. The "smart" functions appear when you turn on the TV and accessing the menu comes with the touch of a button. I won't use 75 percent of it, but having Amazon, Netflix and Youtube easily accessible is great. I upgraded from a 46 inch Samsung I bought about 8 years ago (The model with the red bezel) and I have to say, I miss the solid looking frame around the TV. it's so noticeable that the new 60 inch doesn't really look any bigger on the shelf than the old 46 inch did. That's a preference thing though as I'm sure many love the small frame. I will say it IS cool that the whole front panel is basically screen as it gives you an immersed feeling. I'm not overly wild about the stand as the TV moves a little while attached to it. It's not enough to make me worry it's going to fall over, but enough that it makes me a little queasy when I move it to get to the back. The remote is a touch confusing with both the pointer feature and regular remote features. What it means is you have two "enter" buttons (one with the pointer and one with the regular motion buttons) I'm sure I'll get used to it, but for a remote that is supposed to make life easier, it adds an extra element. The pointer is cool, but a little gimmicky. I have only two real gripes so far. 1st, the upconvert on older movies had some issues. I put on an old movie off Netflix and it was blurred and there was a lot of noise in the picture. It's possible it has something to do with my wifi connection as it seemed to resolve itself at times. The only other gripe I have may be something I'm doing wrong though I'm pretty handy with this stuff and could not figure out the issue. When I put the TV on and connected through the cable box, the menu accessible from the remote included the Comcast channel guide as well as a tab to access my DVR. Later, after I had turned the TV off for a while and then turned it back on, the tabs for guide and DVR were gone. I could not for the life of me figure out why they were no longer there. I tried everything I could including re-running all the initial set ups and I still could not find it. Then about 5 minutes before I was going to give up, it appeared again with seemingly no rhyme or reason. It's possible I did something differently that time, but if I did, I have no idea what it was. I'll keep playing with it and update if I figure it out. BOTTOM LINE: This is a great TV. A touch more expensive than other 60 inchers out there, but for the extra $400 I spent over the Sony I looked at, this has so many more features. UPDATE: The guide issue seems ot have resolved itself and the Super Bowl looked phenomenal on this thing so I upped my review from 4 to 5 stars.

Looks great but broke within 2 years
We bought this TV in December 2015 and we initially loved it. The picture is great, the Smart functions work reasonably well and it was basically what we have come to expect from Samsung. Fast forward 2 years to December 2017 and the TV stopped responding to the remote. We did the obvious, replacing the batteries and buying a new remote to no avail. Both the original and new remotes work fine on our other Samsung TV. I called customer support and after a few minutes of diagnostic work I was told that the TV sensor was damaged and would need repaired. And by the way, the TV is out of warranty. For a television of this price that we have installed begind a wood paneled caninet for protection, I would expect much more than 2 years worth of use. I am beyond disappointed in Samsungโs quality this time around and with their ability to fix the problem.
