I remember watching the movie as a child, though I didn’t fully understand the depth of what it meant at the time. Now, having read The Hiding Place three times—once in high school, again a few years ago, and now the 35th anniversary edition—I see just how profound and powerful her testimony truly is. As a Christian, this story resonates deeply with me. Corrie’s unwavering reverence for Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, is something I’ve often found myself falling short of. And yet, through her, I see what it looks like to love sacrificially, to obey God above man, and to choose compassion in the face of unspeakable evil. She risked everything to protect people who were not like her, and that choice still challenges me today. One of the most striking parts of Corrie’s story is how she finds a way to give thanks for things as small and seemingly unbearable as fleas.
