The handle is comfortable and the rods are long enough to get a really good spark without too much effort. I had no trouble starting a small fire with them. I've used a couple different fire starters before and had the easiest time starting a fire with these than any of the rest. I was a little hesitant to order as other reviews stated their kits were missing pieces but mine came with everything pictured, plus they came in a nice carrying tin.
