The Genuine HONDA Filter (80291-ST3-515) fits in the U-Channels in the Filter Frame Properly and SEAL. Just a little different than 20 years ago but the same concept. IT IS LIKE HAVING A TURBO ON MY AC NOW. It is hot in FL and a clean filter gets cool air out 10x faster. The aftermarket filters I checked up close do not SEAL/SIT in the frame properly. This R&R on 1997-2001 CR-V's is not for the faint of heart. This job ain't no 30 minute in & out wonder. The reason that people do not replace this filter is labor hours and if you pay the shop you will cry at the cost. It is a day killer so get the Genuine parts. A quality 1/4 drive ratchet & short sockets, 6-inch & stubby #2 Phillips, and a compact flash light should get you thru. Watching the U-Tube videos is recommended. TIME SAVER! Check your VIN & buy a new Frame, Filter-Honda (80292-ST3-E01) and Seal-Honda (80293-ST3-E01) because the 20+ year old foam seal is gone already and the seal adhesive is VERY difficult to remove. Save cleaning the old frame for watchin' sports seated chores.

I decided to try install myself. My mechanical skills are not great. I watched a couple how to videos on the internet. It took me about 45 minutes to do the work. A dealer would charge about $75.00 dollars a hour plus your travel time. My only cost was the filter. This filter is exactly the same as the old one I took out.
