Prepare for lots of fun testing options with this ruler
I have lightly quilted for years and have an entire collection of rulers, templates, mats, and (of course) fabric. But I had never jumped into trying the wedge templates that help to create circles. This 10-degree ruler is fabulous, not least because it is in two parts. There is a large solid sticker that lets you put the two together, but I have found I prefer to keep them separate - I like having more leeway to create different fabric and strip sets for the small or larger end. Yes, you could create your own template for 10 degree slices of a circle. But making sure all 36 slices line up properly means you really need to be precise and paper templates or the soft plastic types just don't seem to work as well. (OK, this is a personal observation and is actually the reason I bought this template.) This wedge ruler is a nice weight, easy to handle, and won't get broken in a drawer as easily as a single-piece 24" one. Although I did buy one of the Phillips Fiber Arts instruction books, the instructions that come with the ruler are a great starting point. It takes a little time to get used to working in a circle and there will be a lot of scrap material left over. But - this isn't really a problem - scraps are always a call for the imagination and you could simply use them to make a second complimentary/reverse design quilt.

Sturdy ruler
The ruler provides the perfect slice for a spiral bargello quilt. It does come in 2 pieces, but can be taped together for one continuous cut. Has helpful markings as well.
