## Description

The Designer Series introduces the new generation of touchscreen Blendtec blenders. Any Designer Series blender uses all the power and performance that made Blendtec the choice of blending professionals, and combined it with an amazing modern design with advanced functionality taking Blendtec to a new level in performance blending. No more guesswork! The Designer Series features six preprogrammed custom cycles: Smoothie, Ice Cream, Whole Juice, Hot Soup and Clean, plus a +10 button. This exclusive blend cycle technology creates the perfect blends with the touch of a button. You now have total control of your blending speed literally at your fingertip. You can select any speed or slide your finger left to right to increase or decrease speed. Alongside the slider bar is the stop and pulse controls - a cinch to use and manage. Every Blendtec is professional-grade with some of the most powerful motors in the industry, one of the longest warranties in the business, shipped with the Blendtec blunt blade (10x stronger than competitor blades) delivering smooth blends without the cuts and pokes. Blendtec offers one of the most advanced blenders you can buy. Engineered and manufactured at our Headquarters in Orem, Utah.

Review: Functionality is great (but you'll pay for it) - I really enjoy this blender, sure it costs a boat-load and takes up some of that precious commodity called counterspace, but without a doubt it's a great purchase if you are going to use it (and let's be frank, if you're considering a $400+ blender for a kitchen, one would hope you're actually using it). I bought it for one main purpose and that was making smoothies and iced drinks. Rather then spending $5-6 a pop on the way to work for my smoothie fix, I am able to make drinks on par (if not better due to fresher ingredients) with the local smoothie or coffee shop at home. These are cousins to the blenders in those same shops so it is definitely up to par. This should (hopefully!) pay for itself after a year or two. Using it does take some getting use to as you can't just throw in ingredients and expect it to come out perfect, but with a little trial and error I was able to find the right proportions of liquid, ice and solids to make the perfect mixed drink. There is literally no comparison between the drinks produced by this blender (super smooth) and my previous $20 cheap-o blender (what's that weird burning smell coming from the motor?). The wildside jar is great, but you do need to make sure that you have enough liquid in there to keep everything moving. This might not be an issue for some, but I like my smoothies thick, so it did take some tinkering with liquid amounts. One thing I have started adding to my smoothies is flax seeds (high in fiber/protein/vitamins/etc. and minimal taste impact when its one of many other ingredients). In my old blender I needed to grind the flax seeds in my coffee grinder to get them chopped up. In the blendtec, I throw them in whole and they're pretty much obliterated in the smoothie and it's hard to tell they're even there. I've also had a similar experience with kale, where the cheap-o model couldn't handle the tough fibers, but the blendtec doesn't even bat an eye-lash The designer series is a step up from the older blendtec model and it's sleek finish is pretty easy to keep clean due to a lack of buttons (the controls are operated by a capacitive touchscreen similar to a cellphone). Downsides: +This thing is loud. You're only going to be using it in short bursts, but the neighbors might wonder why you're running heavy machinery in the morning. +Smoothie cavitation (this is when the blender blades create an air pocket and spin without hitting anything) -- Can be remedied by making sure there is enough liquid in the jar. Pros: +Powerful...yes it will blend +Professional quality +Easy clean-up (just throw a little water with some dishwashing soap and pulse for a few seconds. Rinse out and let dry) +7 year warranty
Review: VERY HAPPY! - Finally, we had enough money to get a high powered/high end blender. We love it! I use it at least three times a day. The concerns I had were met as follows. 1. Blendtec or Vitamix? - this machine fits under my counter, - it has settings that lets me leave the machine alone while I tend to the kids or prep other food, - it also has a manual setting so I can blend a little extra if needed, and - the flat surface is easy to clean 2. How can I justify the cost if all it does is blend? I.e. what else can I make with this thing other than smoothies? I took some time and read through the recipe book that comes with the blender. If you get this machine I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING THROUGH THE RECIPE BOOK - KNOWLEDGE IS POWER and you will enjoy more foods as a result. Each day I make a smoothie and then two or more completely different foods that I didn't ... well ... think were possible with a blender. I make, - pancakes from scratch, that is, I throw wheat berries in with milk and pulverize those, then all the other ingredients and in less than 3 minutes I have this really good batter that makes fluffy pancakes each time - no white flour! With our griddle I can make 4 at a time and have pancakes on the table within 15 minutes it's really good for my kids because they get impatient. It's easy to pour each pancake straight from the jar and clean up is painless. - brownies = delicious and restaurant quality every time! - cookies = again, delicious and healthy - tomato salsa and sauce - tomatillo salsa - bread - soup - almond butter - almond milk and more 3. Price Well, we had to save up for this but after baby #2 came along we really could justify the cost. Its easier to make healthy foods high in nutrients when you have this type of tool. I really feel that the cost is justified because of the time we save in cooking and the health benefit we get. If you're struggling to pay for it now just keep saving because the day will come when you can get it and you will appreciate what it can do for you even more. We now want to get the four sided jar because we use the wildside jar so much.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: blendtec vs vitamix**
A: I'm sure by now you've probably already made a decision. But the answer to your question is that it depends on the person. I will say that you could probably hand 10 out of 10 people a Vitamix and thanks to the tamper, they will be able to make a perfect smoothie just about every time. With the Blendtec, things aren't quite that simple. Because the Blendtec doesn't have assistance from a tamper, the user must be more careful to measure things. E.g. not enough liquid means the Blendtec will struggle and either one or two things will happen: 1. the person will have to add more liquid or 2. the person will have to find something to push, i.e. tamper, down the ingredients into the cutting path of the blade. With all of this said, the Blendtec can blend just a well as the Vitamix; it just has a slightly higher learning curve than the Vitamix. If you follow Blendtec's recipes exactly in their recipe book, then you'd never have a problem with it. Those recipes are designed to take advantage o the pre-programmed settings. But it's when you start to stray and do your own thing is when you'll soon find that the manual speeds are more beneficial than the pre-sets.So the learning curve on the Vitamix is lower, but the same results are achievable with the Blendtec either by experience or by doing significantly more work. The advantage of the Blendtec over the Vitamix is that: 1. the blade is dull and it's designed to be able to blend and grind hard grain. Vitamix recommends that if you want to regularly grind hard grain, you purchase the separate $150 dry container. This is because the standard/wet container's blades will become dull/damaged over prolonged grinding. 2. Because the Blendtec's blade is dull and is designed to work dull, it will never need sharpening, it won't cut or nick your fingers by accidents, nor will it damage your spatula as you're trying to get things out. And Blendtec has a lifetime warranty on the blade. If they can't fix it, then they will just send you a brand new container... this goes beyond the 7-year warranty. 3. the Blendtec generally costs less for a new unit. With the Vitamix usually being any where from $50-200 more expensive than the Blendtec, and that's not including the cost of the dry container if you need that, the Blendtec can be slightly or significantly cheaper than the Vitamix. And that's important because for some people even though the Blendtec has a high learning curve, some might be willing to deal with that if it means saving money. 4. The Blendtec is about 15.5" tall. It can fit on just about any counter, even ones that are lower than average. Most cabinets sit about 18" above the counter, but in the case of my counters, they sit 16.75". So even the "short" Vitamixes wouldn't fit under my cabinets.5. Because the Blendtec's digital timer, you know exactly how long you blend things. Also, because there is a time limit to how long the Blendtec will blend, you don't have to worry about baby-sitting your machine. For example, if you start a blend, but then you have kids running around and you have to keep an eye on them, you're free to do so. Where with the Vitamix, you might have to shut off your machine and then go attend to your kids. With all of this said, you really can't go wrong with either machine. I'd be lying if I said that I never thought some of my blends would be easier with the Vitamix. But then again, I do like that I can do everything in one container without the need for a separate and very expensive container. But I will say that I have owned the Blendtec Designer Series since Feb 2013 and I already have over 2300 cycles on it. The more I have gotten used to the Blendtec, the more I have 'mastered' the manual control, etc I have learned that things have become significantly easier. I can get the machine to do just about anything I want it to do now.

**Q: What is the difference between this unit and the TB-631-20? I think it may only be cosmetic, but am not sure if I'm overlooking something.**
A: This has the same wattage and horsepower as the Total Blender. Difference between the two is this one has the Wildside jar and a touch screen interface. The Wildside jar has 5 sides for better blending for smoothies when compared to the Fourside jar that comes with the Total Blender. Both are great blenders and come with the standard 7 year warranty from Blendtec.

**Q: Is the wildside jar too big too blend smaller portions (e.g., individual smoothies, salad dressing, hummus, etc.) - in other words, the stuff advertised for the "Twister jar"?**
A: I use it all the time for individual smoothies. I don't know about the hummus.

**Q: Hi, can anyone tell me what model this blender is? designer series has a few different options....**
A: This one is discontinued 2013 model; see more here: http://www.blendtec.com/blenders/designer-series#specs

This is not your average blender! Since splurging and purchasing this i have made green smoothies everyday. I have trouble eating fruits and vegetables because i have had extensive mouth surgery due to cancer. It is so easy to add whatever fruits and vegetables you want in this blender, and everything is blended with no pulp leftover! The design is such that there is minimal cleanup. A terrific product!
