Why are the idols smeared in some kind of oil?

The oil prevents tarnish and dirt sticking to the murtis until you can start bathing and dressing them with your own oils [or not on the oil.] Proper veneration of the murtis includes bathing them for festival days, fast days, the particular deity's birthday or appearance day, etc. A gentle bath with a mild soap and water with a brush to get the oil out of crevices will get the oil off. If you leave it, buff them with a microfiber cloth so the oil does not grab dust. Mine never got dusty so far, and I have started bathing them too.

The product is not Brass as advertised! The details on the deities are not sharp. I tried to ship them back and the cost to ship the items is 3 times the cost of the product. Do not purchase the items.

Awesome!

I bought the set while it was on a deal. A perfect buy, I would say! Have seen different kinds of set up, I used a Jewelery box for it and added a bell and a self painted kalasam. Looks beautiful! The product is quite heavy and is brass alright!
