Although these pieces may seem a little pricey, they're totally worth it! These are easily my favorite chess pieces EVER! They're of great quality, durable, and look fantastic! I originally bought them to share with my grandpa and I spray painted mine burgundy and put googly eyes on them, and I just had to get another set to paint burgundy and red but without the googly eyes! And dare I say, I’m tempted to someday buy yet another set to just have the original black and white wood colors! They feel great! They have a smooth, shiny finish and are a bit bigger and heavier than your standard pieces. They make a nice little thump when you place them on the board because of their weight, it's very satisfying! They aren't too heavy to get tired of playing with though. Now please note that some other reviewers along with myself have noted some imperfections in the pieces, some of my rooks have the little cuts in the top placed unevenly, and some of the knights have deeper cuts on the sides of thier ears, but I don't really mind that. The pieces still look great! All of the pieces have black felt pads on the bottom of them, so they slide nicely on the board and aren't too loud when you place them! Each color also comes with a nice drawstring storage bag, so you get 2 of those with each set! Now for individuals like myself that love to customize, These pieces are great for that too! I used a layer or two of Krylon Fusion spray paint for my first set, and it holds on wonderfully! Overall, I HIGHLY recommend these chess pieces! I just can't get enough of 'em and love to use them every time I play chess!

I received the set today and was pleasantly surprised. At $29.99 this is a really good value. The piece design is a nice rendition of German knight sets used in FIDE tournaments albeit with a little less volume on the pieces, less carving and a lighter wood. While the set is not heavily weighted it is fine for blitz or tournament play. I think single weighted is a more accrucate description maybe slightly heavier. Finish on the pieces was in perfect condition. I have bunches of solid heavy wood tournaments sets ie 3.75" but I am going on a non-chess vacation and wanted a lighter set to travel with. This is perfect goes nicely with a Wie super thin board. This is a nice entry level set so to speak and especially if you want to buy multiple sets for a club or school and want a wood set this is a great value.

Awesome pieces. First time buying chess pieces and I thought it would weight a little bit more but overall I'm happy with it! Can't go wrong paired up with the wooden board they have.

These pieces are beautifully crafted, excellent contrast between light and dark pieces (while the light brown pieces are a lovely color), nicely weighted. An incredible deal! (I just moved, and my $100 set of pieces didn't make the move; this set is a fine replacement). I may need to get slightly larger board; mine is 14". A snug but fine fit. A 16" board would be better.

Nicely weighted and sized. Whoever said these don't weigh enough should have their review revoked. Color is awesome for both. Made of a nice wood and has a nice finish. Little slippery, but that might ware off with time. Highly recommend for the price and comes packaged very nicely with each color set having their own cloth bag. Sweet dealio!

We purchased chess pieces to replace existing. They look nice and colors are exactly what we wanted. However, one bishop is missing the defining cutout at the top and a knight has a chipped ear tip. Have emailed customer service twice, per warranty. No response after nearly two weeks of waiting since first contact attempt. The phone number they provide for customer service is a scam number. We don’t want to return the entire set of pieces, when it’s simply two pieces in need of replacement. Amerous apparently does NOT stand behind their warranty!!! Buy American!

This is a very nice chess set! It has an elegant look and feel! A great value for the money. I also got there 17 inch wooden board and they look great together. When I received the set, one of the black knights had a broken nose. It took a day to hear from them but they took of the problem and sent me a new one. I recommend both the set and the board!

If the knights are grand, the pawns in this set are very well-proportioned. The head of the pawn is roundish and stands out instead of being squashed into the neck. The lacquer on the pieces is very even and this is more pronounced in the black pieces. I was going to load photos, but if you double-click on the knights, other photos of the pieces appear. You will be impressed. Worth the money.
