Bright as ever! Power switch causes laser light to wiggle!
I knew better than to spend $50 on a laser for my rifle. Why? Because as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.Now many people on here have given this laser glowing reviews. That's exactly why I decided to break my own rule (you get what you pay for) and purchase this laser. Well, now it's going back for a refund. After mounting this on my AR10, I was impressed by how far I could see the light in the middle of the day (I made my zeroing attempt at about 75 yards) through my scope. The problem began when I went to switch the power on and I could see the laser jump from bottom left to upper right! Push the power back off and just before it would go off, the laser would return to the bottom left. Powered it back on, jumped to the top right. Attempted to zero the windage and elevation and that even caused the laser to bounce around!Oh, and I DO NOT like "quick release" lasers because they usually don't hold tight on the rail. This one is no exception. It moves front to back with relative ease. Honestly, why not just have an option to screw it down tight? This is supposed to NOT move - it's an aiming device for crying out loud!I called NCstar and the rep said the wiggling laser light (from the power switch) was highly unusual behavior. I even tried to see if anyone else had the same issue in the reviews, but all I could see was the laser having trouble "maintaining" zero. Well, I decided to send it back for a refund and do some more research.I ended up on the ViridianGreenLaser .com website and came across their C5 model, which appears to be primarily for pistols. However, it can be used for a rifle too. Amazon has 'em as well! Great reviews, but much pricier. Again, you get what you pay for - and it's made in USA apparently. So, when the Viridian comes in, I'll post a review on Amazon. Hopefully I'll have much better luck.

Works great.....did for six months.
Update: After six months it stopped working so I dropped it 2 stars. I had high hopes for this product and carried it daily in a soft holster. Every month I'd check it to make sure it still worked and the battery hadn't drained. Well I pulled my gun out, laser was in off position, switched in on and figured the battery died somehow. Replaced battery and sure enough the unit is dead. It has zero wear marks on it, looks brand new still and was never in the rain. :(My thoughts before it died:I have this on a XDm 5.25 and the laser almost makes it to the end of the barrel so clearly this is better for a full size handgun. It is plenty bright at nights and in full day light I can see the dot outside against my fence about 50 feet away. No way I would be able to see my red laser that far in the sun. It does fit the XDm perfectly with no amount of wiggle. The switch to turn it on is at the perfect place being right handed as it's the natural place my finger rests when not on the trigger. The one downside of this model is the on-off switch does protrude more than anything else on the weapon. Not by much but enough that I worry it can accidently get switched on when in my holster. I'm using a shoulder holster rig that can be customized to various handguns and positioned Velcro along the inside that touches the slide to prevent it turning on. It's only been one day but so far it's worked. If they could reduce the amount of protrusion of the on-off switch by 50% no doubt I'd have given it 5 stars since it's questionable as a carry accessory as it might turn on accidently and drain the battery. For any other use such as training or practice I whole heartedly recommend it.

The good: if you get one that works it's bright ...
I purchased two of these. One works well, as In it's bright, and can be zeroed. One will not zero. Seems the adjustments are messed up inside. The good: if you get one that works it's bright and can be adjusted. Also, it clips on quickly and detaches just as fast. The bad: the switch can be easily activated when laying the firearm down on its side (as we all do). The switch moves left and right to activate and I've inadvertently bumped it several times to the off and on positions. I have it attached to a Glock 17, 9mm. I've had no issues with it keeping zero (on the one that works). It's not a good LASER to store and deploy from a bag. Like I said you will inadvertently bump the thing to the on position and it will be sitting in your bag while burning through your battery. I suggest one with a different setup for the switch.

Mounting Track is Not Adjustable
I bought a few different green lasers for Xmas and planned to use this one on on a Beretta 92FS. The beretta has a built-in rail under the barrel. The NcStar should just slide on and the spring loaded locking flange is supposed to snap into the place for it on the gun rail. Well, could not get the laser on more than 1/4 inch, no matter how hard I tried. I even lubed up the rail and tracks but still no go. I wanted this NcStar laser on the 92FS because it says don't mount anything over 6 oz. and the NcStar, with battery, is only 4.2 oz.So, got some metal emory cloth and the file from my swiss army knife and started sanding/filing the mounting tracks on the laser, just a tiny bit at a time. After 2 hrs. of this I fianlly got it to slide onto to the gun and snap into place. Getting it off is still a bit tedious and I still might have to use something between the trigger guard and the laser to get it moving forward. So much for taking it off the gun when not in use or removing it so the battery is not stored in it!The other thing is the on/off switch. Works fine but since it is so hard to remove/mount if I put the gun back in a case and close the case the switch might get turned on. Now I have to rig up a safety cover for the on/off switch so it does not get inadvertantly turned on when you lay the gun down and close the case.Whew! As far as the laser- looks super bright inside! Haven tried it outside yet and haven't had a chance to sight it in. For the price the green laser looks great. The mounting issue was horrible. Would have given 5 stars if the mouning wasn't so horrible. The idea with their slide-on and spring flange is nice but will it fit on your rail easily? Maybe this was just an issue with my particular gun?
