NOVA 5015 Live Center System with Stepped Cone

It's and excellent system, with and excellent warranty. But it means nothing if the seller doesn’t stand behind it. I had a problem on Saturday afternoon and wtote the seller. I received a prompt reply and,the issue was resolved within the hour. None of waiting till Monday for these guys. You'll like the product and you'll like how you are treated.

It is a NOVA product so it is of good quality as expected

Nova makes excellent quality woodturning tools, and this is no exception. The seller offered two editions of this set of live center accessories. I opted for the original edition as they could fulfill the same functions as the newer set, and at a lower price. Unfortunately, the set sent to me had one component that had begun to rust. When I brought this to the seller’s attention, they quickly offered a refund of 20% off the normal price. Good customer service and an excellent set of tools!

I love this Live center set. It has many different types of adapters all in one set. Buying this set has saved me from having to buy a multitude of different types of Live centers for all the different types of turnings I have been doing lately. Not only does this set save me money it also saves me from wasting valuable drawer space that buying a multitude of different ones would have cost me. The bearings are smooth and quiet. The only adapter I so far would like to have seen added to it's capabilities is one that would fit a pen mandrel. But it won't be hard to make one out of some extra round stock that I have in the same diameter as the other adapters included in this kit. It's a simple design which makes it fairly easy to make more adapters if needed. Just another reason that I love it.

Made in China.This appears to be well made and very heavy duty. Machining looks good. What arrived does not quite look like the picture - the smaller parts have a black finish rather than a polished steel look. Also, the packing inside the manufacturer's box did not survive the trip - all parts were found torn loose from their moorings and in a jumbled pile. I did not see any serious damage.The bearings seem good. Also made in China, no surprise there.There does not appear to be any way to attach the touted stepped cone to the live center to use the stepped function. The manual indicates the stepped cone can be mounted in reverse on the threaded center but the taper is wrong for that. Perhaps the concave cone could rest up against the large convex cone of the live center and held in place with pressure from the tail stock. This does not seem like the best design. Maybe the factory forgot to machine a second mounting taper.One major goof-up by Technitool: the knockout bar supplied is too large in diameter and will not fit into the hole in the center. My calipers indicate the hole is around .398" but the bar is .400", making it useless. I will have to machine it to a smaller diameter or find something to replace it. Sloppy for Technicatool who are typically more careful. However this was made in China and probably never inspected in New Zealand.Overall I think it is worth the low price.

The first one I received had a lot of sideways slop in the bearing; and looked used. Amazon replaced it promptly. The second one looks new, the bearing is secure. I haven't used it much yet, but the versatility looks excellent. But there is not a small cup for self-centering dowels or stubs less than 1" diameter.

I have not used it yet but I have cleaned all the packing grease off the parts that came scattered around the inside of the box, not very well packaged. As stated in other reviews it does not look like the picture, all parts have a black finish, no polished steel parts. The knockout bar supplied does fit the NOVA LIVE CENTRE BODY, but nothing is supplied to knockout hollow cup center point out of the hollow cup centre, I used a piece of 5/16" bar steel I had. I will try and update after I have used it.

After much research on a live center, I settled on the Nova here. Price was on target, I have a Nova G3 chuck which I'm very happy with, so I was expecting Nova quality. So why the 3 stars? Take a look at my pictures. These were taken literally 5 minutes after opening the package. The parts were scattered about the box, they look dirty, and at first glance I thought there was a missing piece. I then messed around with one of the components and found it came apart. Along with saw dust. This was obviously used and returned. In addition if you look carefully at the red Nova sticker on the drive, you'll see that it is dirty and slightly torn, indicating use. The picture you see advertised shows what looks like some parts of stainless or polished steel. They're not. They're all a matte black. I'm very disappointed in Amazon for simply restocking this used return. That's why a 3. Maybe I'll keep it, though. Seems the bearings are turning smoothly and I don't need to waste my time returning. it. So, if you're looking for a brand new, never before opened item, apparently its hit or miss.

this unit is really smooth and no wobble. I didn't realize how crappy the original that came with my lathe was until i got this. my only complaint is that it sticks into the lathe and is hard to get out.because of the hole through the centre my knockout bar wont work - I have to use a wrench and hammer it off - sometimes it still doesn't come out and i have to use locking pliers to twist it out. Poor design in my opinion

Te interchangeable tips and built in pen mandrel saver are invaluable.

I want to clarify that my concerns were not directed at the original supplier. He has written me a follow-up that was complete, courteous, and helpful in answering and resolving my concerns. The basic facts of an open box and totally disheveled contents remains; however, on further examination I did receive all parts and do not require his assistance in completing this purchase. NOVA 5015 Live Center System with Stepped Cone.....I was very impressed by a you tube video introducing all the features of this set. 3 bearings instead of the usual 1 or 2 was what sold me. Excellent quality. The set I received was brand new in a sealed box so no complaints there. Highly recommended.
