Crushing it, literally
I bought the McKay 16oz can crusher because my recycling bin was starting to look like it had a drinking problem. This thing mounted easily, works like a charm, and absolutely obliterates cans with the kind of efficiency usually reserved for action movies and tax season. There is something deeply satisfying about pulling the handle and hearing a can realize its journey is over. Soda cans? Flattened. Seltzer cans? Humble now. Beer cans? Sent to the shadow realm. It’s sturdy, simple, and makes me feel like I run a tiny, very aggressive recycling facility out of my basement. Honestly, I didn’t expect a can crusher to bring this much joy into my life, but here we are. Bonus: it also cuts down on the mountain of empty cans, which means fewer trips to take out recycling and more room for my questionable beverage choices. Would recommend to anyone who has ever looked at an empty can and thought, “You’ve had this coming.”

How this crusher went from 1 star to 5. Please read the entire review!
Ok, so we drink a lot of long skinny canned beverages and thought that this would be a great addition out in our pavilion. Finish your drink, crush the can, into the trash it goes and at the end of the month a trip to the recycling plant. This crusher worked great-for about two weeks. Then every once in a while instead of crushing the can, the can would come hurdling out right for your face--no rhyme or reason, just the occasional check to see if you were paying attention or not. It did make for some interesting party stories, but luckily no law suits. Today it finally gave out completely and the bottom plate now moves about 3" and makes the whole entire thing useless. :( Why this piece isn't welded on, instead of it being riveted on, is beyond me. Unfortunately it's too late for a return. It definitely wasn't the least expensive, but it might actually be the cheapest one. Not a happy customer. This is where the edit begins. i contacted customer service and they had me take pictures and sent them to them and then they sent me a new unit. Now, being the redneck engineers that we are, we figured we could rig the broken one and hang on to the replacement until this one couldn't be fixed any longer. So we used a piece of 2x4 to hold the broken bottom plate in place, and riveted an arm back on--yeah that broke too, and got about another 3-4 months use out of the broken unit before it finally just gave up and fell apart. At this point we took the old unit down, gave it the viking burial that it earned and replaced it with the replacement that had been provided to us. Right out of the box, or well, as soon as we hung it on the wall, you could tell a difference. I'm not sure what happened with the first one, but the replacement--there is a huge difference in everything and it may sound odd, but when you are using it, you can tell there is a difference and I truly believe that the first crusher was defective and when they replaced it, we received what the crusher should be. It moves smoothly, doesn't take any huge amount of effort and completely crushes the cans--just like you would expect it to do. I'm actually impressed by a simple can crusher. lol I also need to apologize to the manufacturer for my original review. Sorry guys for the awful original review--but I'm going to leave it here because I want people to know that this company does stand behind their product and they do what they need to do to make it right. So if you bought/buy one and it doesn't work like it should, contact the company and let them know!

Originally sturdy but will lose stability even after maintenance.
I bought this in 2021. The can crusher was great and fit my needs. I made the money back on it with the first set of cans I crushed and i thought I would have it for at least a couple of years. It turns out, it lasted me roughly 2 years of use, averaging about being used 2 times a month to crush about 30-60 cans, ranging from soda cans to coffee cans, to weird health drink cans. Some issues I noticed over time: Please note, I bought this used because I was on a budget. It was stated "like new" and when I inspected the product, it did not have any signs of wear, not even paint chipping. 1. Install properly. Instead, the can crusher should be used with a stud finder for better security. I have seen my mom's boyfriend's father use this outside on a backyard fence, and it works fine for him, but I recommend indoors to protect it from the elements and to also have some privacy while you crush cans. Plus, you can do it in your underwear and not worry about stepping on a rattlesnake. 2. Requires grease. You need to apply grease to the moving parts or else you're going to be stripping away metal. 3. Even with grease, the paint will strip over time from friction sliding. This is inevitable and if you think about it, our bodies constantly get stripped away when we go outdoors, the good thing is that we are biological systems that can regrow cells to replace damaged molecules. Can crushers cannot. 4. Eventually, even with grease and good installation, the can crusher's sidebars will slowly bend. Slowly at first but for me it was about 600-800 cans that my issues began occuring. 5. Eventually, the side bar will drastically bend, like it did for me, causing the can crusher to still be usable but it won't crush 100% and instead you'll need to use your hands or stomp on the can to complete the crushing. Pictures to come but please note I bought this used and I trusted the inspection process of it to be "like new," which it was for me. However, I do not know if it was something faulty or if it was simple wear and tear did the can crusher begin to bend and be unusable. Working in industry and manufacturing, our tools are obviously heavy-duty and higher quality but they last us 1-2 decades of daily use, versus instead of 2-3 years of bi-monthly use.

This wall-mounted can crusher has turned our recycling routine into a competitive sport. Installation was easy — attach to wall, find stud, feel powerful. Once it’s up, you too can experience the deeply satisfying CRUNCH of aluminum surrendering instantly. It’s like therapy, but louder. Gone are the days of stepping on rogue cans in the garage or playing Jenga with the recycling bin. Now? One swift pull of the handle and that bubbly little soda souvenir becomes a sleek, pancake-thin medal of environmental responsibility. Unexpected perks: • Excellent stress reliever after a long day. • Makes you feel wildly efficient. • Kids think it’s a medieval torture device for LaCroix. • Saves so much bin space you’ll briefly consider starting a sparkling water habit just to keep crushing things. It’s sturdy, dramatic, and mildly addictive. We now judge beverages based on crush performance. 10/10. Would smash again.

Crusher its self feels like good quality , Installation screws are less than desirable, actual screw head came off of screws when tightened by hand with a screwdriver and my power drill stripped the screw heads . Crusher works well, fun to reduce the size and recycle **update this company will make your experience and purchase right with no hassle. I am beyond impressed and will recommend this as a great purchase, you may not or may need different screws but either way crusher is fantastic

I bought the McKay Can Crusher/Smasher because I was getting embarrassed by the racket of all my empty beer cans clanging around when dumping them into the recycling bin. Enough was enough – instead of cutting back on beer, I decided to tackle the can situation head-on with this crusher. And wow, this thing is a lifesaver! Not only does it crush each can down to about 1-inch thick, saving me tons of space in the recycling bin, but it also makes the process super quiet. I can fit way more cans in the grey bin after they’ve been crushed, and the built-in bottle opener is a nice added bonus. The crusher is solidly built, with sturdy steel arms and a comfortable, cushion-grip handle. It’s easy to use and works on both 16 oz. and 12 oz. cans, plus plastic bottles. Now, I don’t have to feel guilty about my beer intake since the recycling process is so much more efficient. Happy days! The only minor issue I’ve noticed after all this use is that the handle doesn’t always stay upright anymore. Not a huge deal, though, as it still looks fine whether it’s up or down.
