Perfect for lettuce!
I have always used a regular metal knife to cut up my lettuce until I found this plastic lettuce knife on Amazon. I have noticed a huge difference in my lettuce after using this knife... no more brown/pink edges!! Using this knife, my new salad spinner, & my new rubber maid produce/salad keeper bowls I noticed my salad is lasting a lot longer! When I used regular bowls, metal knife, ect. my salad would start to go bad fast, it wouldn't even last a week. Now I don't have to pressure myself to eat it before it goes bad, it lasts well over a week. I read in one of the reviews where someone said this knife just shreds the lettuce... I never had any problems, the knife cuts clean edges for me. I press down on the lettuce & saw back & forth with a little pressure. There are sharp points on the knife, but not so sharp it will cut you... it's very safe, even kids could use this. It's very easy to clean. Make sure & store it on a flat surface so it doesn't bend/warp. I'm sure this knife would also be great to cut soft foods like cake, lasagna, ect. I love my new lettuce knife, I just wish I could have found it sooner! Other salad products I recommend... -Salad spinner, great for drying your lettuce, makes it last longer... Prepworks by Progressive Salad Spinner - 4 Quart -Rubbermaid produce/salad keeper bowls. Makes your salad last longer. Has air vents & a tray at the bottom of the bowl so your salad isn't sitting in it's own water... Rubbermaid Produce Saver Food Storage Container, 6-Piece Set

Great for kids
I got this for my five year old who wants to cook and cut like her big sister. It does take a lot longer than a sharp knife but I've watched her cut cantaloupe, watermelon, breads and muffins, apples, pears and lettuce with effort but still she loves it and she can't cut herself with it. Cutting meat is more hit or miss. Really, I think she is shredding it more than cutting it but still, it wasn't designed for that. I do wish it was smaller for her but it wasn't made as a children's knife and anyone wanting to attack a whole head of lettuce wouldn't want it smaller. All in all it is a good purchase. A note on using it- I find that it works best with a gentle sawing motion. If you put too much pressure it doesn't seem to work as well. Don't try to speed up the process. Just let the knife do the work. You can saw back and forth pretty fast, just not with a lot of pressure.

Buy a cool lettuce knife and eat your greens!
I keep a "base" salad in my fridge to create lunch salads all week with. On prep day, I cut up spinach, Romaine lettuce, and purple cabbage. When hubby and I each grab a bowl of the salad mix, then we add what we like to finish the salad - carrots, tomatoes, dried fruit, redbud flowers, cheese, sunflower seeds, strawberries, or whatever else we want. This green knife is a really good lettuce knife - specifically for cutting lettuce so that the lettuce doesn't turn brown. It works! I've bought bags of salad that turn brown in a couple of days, but if I buy some Romaine lettuce and cut it myself, it lasts for 5 or 6 days. Don't expect a nice clean cut like a sharp metal knife would do, but if you don't want your lettuce to turn brown, use this. There ya go - buy a cool lettuce knife and eat your greens!

Great lettuce knife, but not for anything else...
The thing one must remember when using this knife if that it is made for use in cutting away from your body. After having cut myself by trying to catch an electric knife some years ago (and requiring tendon surgery on fingers lol), I appreciate that it keeps my from drawing the knife toward me (I have even stabbed myself in my tummy), and I have caught on to cutting away from myself into the other direction. (Yes, I am clumsey and everytime I pickup a large knife my hubby says, "Oh, here, I'll take care of that!" LOL, I appreciate it but I need to use knifes properly. This knife definitely NOT for anything other than lettuce. It does cut every kind of lettuce and I usually stack 4 to 6 leaves together. When not using this knife I use kitchen scissors, which very well also!

More useful than expected
This knife is better than expected. I use it for most vegetables and fruit slicing, and with it worry less about dulling the blade on the cutting board than with a regular knife. I've been using it for months and it does not seem any less sharp. I had concern my wife would think I had bought another useless kitchen tool, but was suprised at her enthusiastic approval when she saw it. It is very attractive. The knife has a great "vibe", I even think that the food prefers being cut with it, if that's possible. It is very well made, easy to clean, safe to keep in a drawer without a cover, so is very practical. It would make a great gift. It compliments my Progressive International LKS-06 Lettuce Keeper and Vita-Mix 5200 .

Great for non-stick pans and softer cooked items and here are the dimensions
I got this knife to cut lasagna and casseroles and it's great, though for some things you might need to begin cutting through the top surface with a stainless steel knife. I noticed some scratches on a non-stick, Blue Granite, lasagna pan from using a sharp steel knife. So now I get the cuts started with a sharp, stainless steel, chef's knife, then cut-through to the bottom of the pan with this plastic knife. HERE ARE THE DIMENSIONS: I bet the sellers would sell a lot more of these if they didn't, ridiculously, list this as: Size: 2.25". The knife is 12" long, the handle 4.5" and the blade 7.5". The blade is 2 1/16" wide at the handle and 1" wide just before the sharp bend near the end. The top, dull side of the blade varies from 3/16" thick near the handle to 1/16" at the end, providing a good, stable reinforcement for the blade.

Works just like it was claimed to work...
I gave this knife a five -star rating because it has performed exactly as it was supposed to, and it was very inexpensive. Lettuce truly does not become brown on the cut edges when I use this knife to chop it up. It makes salad-making go faster for me, because I used to tear the lettuce into pieces. In addition, I'm an iceberg lettuce lover, and I've found that using this knife to cut off the brownish stuff on the stem end of the head of lettuce immediately after getting it home from the grocery store really helps retard the spoilage and prolong the life of the lettuce. I would definitely recommend this knife to a friend.

The knife itself is very sturdy and firm
I looked forward to receiving this and I was just as excited when it arrived. The delivery was fast, but as a prime member, I expected that. The knife itself is very sturdy and firm. It has an excellent overall feel to it, not cheap or flimsy at all, but when used to cut the lettuce it seems to tear the lettuce apart, making it look almost shredded on the edges. Overall I wasn't too fond of the texture of the salad when it was cut. It's fine for one or two cuts in lettuce, but for any significant amount of cutting, I'd just stick to using a regular knife.

Great lettuce knife!
I was so fed up with struggling to cut up lettuces tidily, and also had to waste money when the leaves turned brown. This particular knife was very reasonable in price, so I thought I'd try it. It is terrific! And I haven't seen a brown lettuce leaf since I bought it! I also used it to cut up cooked chicken yesterday, and it worked a treat. It arrived quickly and is great value for money. The only thing that surprised me, was that the knife which arrived was red, not green. But the lettuce doesn't seem to mind at all! Thoroughly recommended.

Never gets dull!
Never gets dull!! Cuz it already is when you get it. But it's not supposed to be "Sharp". Does a great job on lettuce, which it's meant for. No rusty salad!

This is an excellent knife for children to learn to chop and help ...
This is an excellent knife for children to learn to chop and help in the kitchen. My niece was overjoyed to use it, to the point we had to put it in a different drawer to stop her from pulling it out whenever she was in the kitchen!
