These are soft foam balls and very easy to use.
My only problem with them has been that most if them had indentations in them.

Not 4 inches. These are 3.5 diameter
These are much closer to 3.5" than 4. They are sturdy, but if you really need the specific size (like I do), they aren't.

What you want from a styrofoam ball
Well made and great for my craft project. The size I got was advertised as 7.9" diameter but is actually 7.6".

Hard to work with
It's very hard to get things poked into it. I had to use a lot of force to get it to go into it in several places.
