Rather convoluted happenings on holiday
Right from the start this friends-on-holiday story made me feel claustrophobic, even though they're in a beautiful villa in France. It's a bit too drawn out although it kept me reading, so that's a big point in its favour! The tale is full of twists, turns and misunderstandings, and there is the undercurrent of the British stiff-upper-lip. Instead of speaking their minds and asking questions, there's a lot of guesswork going on, the wondering, the wrong conclusions. Sometimes you want to shake the main character so she will simply confront her friends openly. I did not warm to any character, and the 10 year old boy acts like a 5 year old. Nevertheless, once you get into the story you really do want to know what is going to happen.

Fooled me
I don't read fiction. Once a year, however, my Mika buys me a book from the Christmas grotto. She knows that daddy reads non-fiction, she tells the teachers as much, and they give her a fiction book anyway. So once a year I do read fiction, and it's invariably one of those books you pick up at the airport ahead of a holiday, for when you have no access to data. This one, in particular, is about a holiday. Refreshingly, I had the wrong murderer, all the way. So there's a twist in my story too, not just in the book: for once, if perhaps only in retrospect, I enjoyed this.

In my opinion this book lacks character development
A very poor storyline with characters that were difficult to warm to.
