Will this fit 2016 iPad Air 2?

Yes, it is specially designed for the iPad Air 2. We have another design which will fit you all 9.7 inch tablet as the following shows. https://www.amazon.com/Case-DTTO-inch-Multi-Angle-Wake-Sleep/dp/B071PDL1D3/ref=sr_1_48?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1517365660&sr=1-48&keywords=ipad+9.7+case

In the vertical position, does the cover fold all the way back on itself?

In either position cover can act as a stand when folded into a triangle, or fold back flush against the back of the iPad.

is back of cover slippery

It’s not rubbery like silicone that you find in kitchen tools, but it’s not slick either, it is kind of in between....smooth with a fine brushed texture so that it is not super slippery. You can place it on something that is slick, like smooth porcelain, and this cover will be stable.

Is the color really navy blue? The photo makes it appear purple
