Nothing registers the fragility of a human quite as starkly as the sight of a mere dot ambling through an endless ocean of white snow. Nothing represents endurance quite as vividly as an individual trudging through a howling gale, barely visible through heavy spindrift. Sole-survivor of a plane crash, and stranded deep within the icy Arctic Circle, Overgård (Mads Mikkelson, Hannibal) spends his days surviving on the fish he can pull from beneath the ice while waiting for a rescue that may never come. When a sudden turn of events finds him no longer on his own, Overgård must make a choice between self-preservation at the cost of another's life or making the trek through the frozen wasteland in order to save them. The debut feature from director Joe Penna, Arctic is a powerful saga of survival in the face of a hostile landscape and the choices that define our humanity in the spirit of 127 Hours and All is Lost. Review: Left me c-o-l-dddddd - Appreciate the dane’s heroics but this was over the top dreary dull movie. 5 stars for most drawn out survival film ever. The injured woman is obviously not a screen actor guild member since she had no zero nada zip dialogue. I felt sorry for the poor Dane schlepping her all over the tundra without even a thank you or where are we or can we pull into a rest stop. Monty Python would have a hey day with this schlock of a film. Never have I watched a movie of this genre praying for hypothermia to finally please set in. Review: Great movie!!!!! - This is an excellent film, portrays the true suffering of surviving in extreme conditions and the story within the story formed between the Mad Mikkelsen (personally his best performance so far) and the rescuer Maria Thelma Smáradóttir even in your worst possible conditions, you do not abandon another human being.

Showed it to a group of 23 people aged 55+. I wondered if they would be bored since there’s no involved plot line and not much dialogue. They found it riveting. Mads Mikkelsen is beyond good and the whole film, withs its stunning scenery, just transports you to the Arctic wilderness. As it should, since it was filmed there, complete with attendant dangers for the star and crew, especially in regards to crevices. A fantastic effort for first time Director, Joe Penna !
